Title: My 3 Amigos

tlc - April 8, 2008 03:58 AM (GMT)
Here is some pics of my fishy family :)

This is Harley (middle), Nugget (bottom left) and Skippy (top right corner).
Skippy is camera shy and hard to get a pic of. He doesn't like the paparazzi either.

Here again is Nugget and Harley. They both hog the camera.
Seriously, notice how short Nuggets front fins are. I think that the size of his front fins make him swim funny. He kind of rolls back and forth as he swims. Is this a normal size for fins?

tia,
That Harley is one cool customer!! I really like the black fins & tail.

Poor Nugget's fins do look abbreviated. I'm sure he has to try a little harder than the others.

Maybe Skippy will warm up as the weather does!

Nice pics of the kids T!!!!!! Oh man, you guys are gonna be in trouble when my brood awakens from the depths of darkness! I am going to be soooo darn happy to see them I am going to go camera crazy.

Don't forget to take the smelling sauce with you when you go see them b/c you are going to pass out from the rush. ;)

Yeah Nugget does struggle more but I did catch him pushing around the other fish to get some food. That made me feel a little better. With his fins being weird it does make me worry more about him. I sure hope they grow more this year!

PG, New avatar? Is it one of your kids? :)

tia,
Yep that's Xena (warrior princess)

She had a rough start last year when I got her from the pet store.
The person that caught her put a one inch gash in her head while netting her.
Then she threw her in the plastic bag, but failed to put water in the bag.
So when the fish hit the bottom of the bag, there was a loud slapping thud as there was only concrete below the bag.

Took her home anyway. The piece of flesh hung from her head for a couple of days.
She seems to have made a full recovery! :)

Nice pics T.

I like Harleys markings. Tell me if I am wrong, but I predict he will change to all gold by the end of the season.
This is just what I have experienced with mine.

Yeah, WW that is what they tell me. I wish it weren't true but he had much more black on him when we bought him last year for 17 cents. I will love him anyway..

Hey PG, I think she winked at me ;) How did you get that close up? Looks like she is saying "Go ahead and take my picture", "Do you like this pose?"
She isn't a goldfish right? She is a koi?

She must be a stong one to survive all that. I bet that girl that caught her won't forget that fish! I guess you can say that Xena left an impression!

KoiKrazy - April 8, 2008 04:24 PM (GMT)
Hey PG, LOVE that picture!! Too cool. Ya, T, your fish will for sure loose the black :-( In my experience, the ones with white on them keep the white markings but the black always fade. Like my poor little guy I named Mohawk, lol, I couldn't pick him out now for the life of me, LOL If you go to the store and get feeders, make them chase around the little ones that are orange and white cause you can get some beauties out of them. I know the pet stores usually say you get no choice with feeders, but I usually just say, JUST DO IT and give them my "look", LOL LOL LOL. It's always best just to do as the crazy fish lady asks ;)

It looks like Nugget's fins are not normal. He may have been born like that, or they were damaged at some point. He should be okay as long as he can move around and eat.

The black on Harley is almost guaranteed to go away in time. I too wish they'd stay like that!

Xena is one tough koi!

Nugget reminds me of the movie Finding Nemo[I]. That little clown fish had a funny fin, too.

Lol, he is kind of Nemoish isn't he? He looks funny sometimes when he swims. I laugh at him but I think he laughs at me b/c he thinks I look funny. ;) :D

I didn't know that about the black disappearing.
What color will it turn to? All orange, or fade to the clearish-white?

I've never had a goldfish with any black on it.

My understanding is they turn all orange.

Pool Guy - April 9, 2008 02:10 AM (GMT)
Hi tia,
That's funny!
I looked at the picture again and I thought she winked at me too!
I think I must catch them at a funny angle ... not all my fish are angry ... I hope!
I did zoom in when I had it on the edit page of photobucket.
Also I darkened the background so it would show better on the avatar.
That edit section is nice to mess around with.

btw- do Nugget's fins look the same ... as each other?

Hi KK,
Thanks, I really like that pic too. :)
Those whiskers crack me up!
And the lips just above the waterline sort of distorted them in a strange way.

I've had some comets go from natural to orange to orange with black tipped fins to all orange to orange with white tipped fins. So, the black areas may turn orange or white or both at various times! Hum, let us know which way this one turns.

tlc - April 10, 2008 06:38 PM (GMT)
PG, Yep both of Nuggets front fins look exactly the same. They've been that way since I got him. They look funny b/c they are just little stubs compared to the other fish but they seem to work for him. I think he has to be different.

So far the black has been getting smaller and being replaced with orange. He had way more black on him when we first brought him home. He even had some on his nose! :)
