I used to have giant hissing cockroaches. Like the millipede, they could only eat romaine lettuce. They also ate dried cat and dog food, apples, bannanas, cookies, dry cereal, and potatoes! Their hissing was pretty cool. I currently have 3 German cockroaches as pets. I know, they are pests, and they may carry diseases, but they were the only 3 left in an abandoned house, so I spared them from bug spray. They eat ANYTHING you give them, and I mean anything. Paint, chocolate, paper, glue, alchohal, cat food, fruit, milk, popcorn, your sweat, water, carrots, ... anything! They are A+ escape artists, so I had to specially make a cage for them. They are less than an inch!
here are their names:
Elvis- the oldest- (Male)
Jumper- the middle one- (Female)
Charlie- the youngest- (Male)
At my school we had an unofficial yearly cockroach race.
This meant we had to get a cockroach per team and grow it up and train it.
The year my team won, I captured a cockroach, no idea what species, and fed it exclusively on whole grain bread with creatine. It was under a inch when I got it, at the time of the race the monster was over 3 inches.
We won the race, and a week later it died.
Years later a veterinary client of mine told me that more than likely it had a heart attack, because it was way bigger than it ever was created to be.
Just a cool story, I actualy cried when it died, I was only 14 at that time though.
I would really like to help, but as i posted earlier; I don't really know a thing about cockroaches. It would be cool if we can get like an insect expert in the forum, because I find bugs very interesting.
Best of luck and let us know what u do and how it goes.
