Title: Robyn's Tank Poll
tlc - April 12, 2008 03:27 AM (GMT)
I am just curious as to how many of us thought that she would leave the tank empty. I had thought of taking wagers on it.

I would have lost the house if I had placed the bet a couple of days ago! :o

Actually guys, if I set up a nano reef tank, I'm not using the same five gallon tank. I would buy this kit thing of 6 gallons because it's cheaper than trying to retrofit a standard 5 gallon. I would go bigger except I simply have no space to put another tank (and don't forget, no time).
It's sad that you mentioned knitting. I've never actually knitted but I used to do a lot of cross-stitch, needlepoint, and other craft sewings. The house is full of them, almost all animal-related (my mother would buy the kits). For my parents 25th anniversary, I cross-stitched a duplicate of their wedding photo down to every detail (my best work!). Once I got my full time job, that went out the window along with reading. I used to read a novel every week! I now have piles of books and magazines and mailings. There are so many that every time my neice or kitten sneaks in there, an avalanche ensues. Some might say that I might read them when I retire. Well, nobody ever retires from my job! There are no retirement plans or benefits and not enough savings to retire. My poor co-worker Gilbert was a work one Friday and suffered a stroke the next Sunday; he was past retirement age. Another co-worker before me birthed a child Friday after work, shipped her to her parents in China the next day, and was back to work Monday like nothing happened!

Unfortunately that's the trend in this country and it looks like if an individual doesn't plan their own retirement they end up like your co-worker. Working late in life though isn't all that bad if, and this is key, you enjoy and look forward to going to work each day. It's a wonder that they can keep good employee's when they offer so little.

I've been unemployed since I got laid off in October, and can't start college til I've moved and lived in Maine for 1 year to avoid out-of-state fees, so I have sort of an excess of time. Not having a job bums me out and kind of saps my energy though, and I have to say I miss the social interaction I had when I had a job. If I could Robyn I'd give you some of my moping time. ;)

The job situation up here is really crazy. We need people so bad in these parts that employers bend over backwards to make you happy and to keep you. The money is outragous. There are so many opportunities for young people to make big money without ever going to college. My daughter who is 19 came up here with us 2 years ago and she has it made. She makes 23$ an hour, gets her gas paid for and drives a 32,000$ car! She is already an Administative Assistant. I would have killed for an opportunity like that at her age. The worst part of things up here is that because there is so much money to make, that no one will take the minimum wage jobs at restaurants etc, so when you go out to eat you get lousy service because they are so understaffed. It's definately a different place to live when you can look around the parking lot at Walmart and see solid Hummers and Cadillac Escalades parked all around.
How do you feel about the oilfield Ralph??? I could adopt you, LOL

Carefull KK you paint such a rosy job oportunity picture you might have the whole forum moving to your neighborhood. Except maybe us southerners would have a difficult time handling the cold. Is the big money due to the oil sands development? Is that anywhere near you?

Hi Froggy, the oil sands are in Alberta, about 8 hours away from us. Most people hate it here because of the climate and most don't stay here for very many years. It is definately NOT ponding climate, unless you are a die hard like me :P The main employment and boom here is the drilling for oil and gas. The whole area is full of oil rigs. Job opportunities are huge, but the life style sucks!

Ok, you guys were right. My mother had told me no but, when I talked to her yesterday, she all of a sudden didn't care. She changes her mind constantly. So, I ordered this tank last night, 4/20/08.
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod...fm?pcatid=10677We didn't get a kitten at the cat show but mom acted like she wanted everyone's cat. She kept saying, "I want a Toyger!" and practically had a tantrum. If you don't know, that's the newest breed, a Bengal developed to look more and more like a tiger in its markings. They're a steal at only about $3000 to $7000 a piece! You should get two! There is a slim chance though we might get a Maine Coon kitten to be born in a few weeks but it's slim. We've never had a purebred cat; they're all rescues or strays.
