Title: Trying To Raise The Fish
Description: nothing is working :-(
KoiKrazy - April 14, 2008 10:41 PM (GMT)
That's it! I swear if I don't see some life soon in that stupid tent pond that I am going to pump the sucker dry! This is what I tried today.
- I shut off the aerator and called and called them......again......nothing!
- I took the net and banged it on the water and made big waves......nothing!
- I through fish food in there in hopes of awakening their noses......nothing!
- I sat on the edge and called them all lovingly by name......nothing!
- I threw rocks in the pond....small rocks....nothing!
- I threw BIGGER rocks in the pond....nothing!
- I sat on the edge drinking a beer and cursing them.....nothing!
- I tried bigger and badder cursing and still.....nothing!
- I gave up and came in here to vent!

Wow! With all the trouble you've gone to to assure their survival, you'd think they'd at least check in. You made the pond so deep that you can't see down there! How far down can you see? Have you dropped a thermometer into the abyss? It might still be too cold down there and too far away for them to hear you.

When somebody throws a rock at me, I don't go near them. <_< :P
If you can't see them, they probably can't see you. :ph43r:

Lower a water resistant light into the depths! THAT will get the lazy little buggers moving! ;)
frogman3 - April 15, 2008 03:44 AM (GMT)
Ah ha you confirmed it you are nuts! ;) Next time they just might throw one of those rocks back! Really KK don't you have a UV light to clear up that pond water so you might have a chance to see them?

Ohhh KK they are sure to be in there but that pond is so deep and they know it's still too cold up there so they are staying down where it's warm. Wouldn't you? :)
With what those little guys in the big pond survived I can't believe that the ones in the tent pond didn't make it. You will see them. :)
Now, you have seen any men in white coats carrying a funny looking jacket with really long sleeves have you? :o  ;)

That's really strange they didn't come to the surface
When someone cuts off my air supply, curses at me and then throws rocks at me ,I just run into their loving arms. But that's just me.
Don't change KK. We luv ya the way you are.

I am to the point where I am going to pump that sucker down so I can see for myself. The temp is 46F at the bottom. Is that warm enough for them to be coming up yet???????? What do you all think?

Scuba Gear and a really bright underwater light? You know they say if you pee in your scuba outfit it'll keep you warmer. :P

Sure pump it out . They are do for a water change anyway. Draw the water out from the bottom and that may get rid of some dodo.
Why am I talking ? I am sure the pump was running 2hr ago. ;)

Ha Ha, ya it would have been but I checked the weather forcast and we are supposed to be in for a record cold snap for the next week, so I think I better leave things alone until it warms up again :-(
frogman3 - April 19, 2008 03:13 AM (GMT)
Well KK have you given up trying to coax those fish out of the Mariana Trench by tossing in rocks, they ought to be hitting bottom by now or are you going to drain 11,500 gallons so you can see your fishes? ;)

Hi Froggy! I have given up for this week because we are having a miserable snowy cold snap! The wind is howling and it sucks! My poor little deck pond is a chunk of ice. I had to put in the de icer I had in the big pond this winter. If I was a fish, I wouldn't pick this week to come up for a look around! As soon as this weather passes, I am taking down the pond tent and getting serious with them. I will keep you posted ;)

So I was going to suggest slipping on the now infamous KK bikini and diving in, but maybe you better wait a week or so!!! ;) :D :D :D

Ouch, that s**ks my goldies are spawning today since and I say this in a very low tone It's been in the seventies this weekand the water temp was 68 yesterday. I have no plants till my shipment comes in next week so I swear they almost do a u-turn and eat the spawn. I have one other river chub ( I think) in with them and though he was lost this morning but it turns out he was just hiding since the goldies were going wild. :D Hope your weather makes a turn for the better soon.

Whoa! Did I miss something? Is that on another thread?!?! ;) :)

DERRICK!!!!!! I am not commenting on the bikini thing :P
PG, I would send a picture but nothing new is going on here right now. The snow has melted but it is still 3F!!! I guess I could take a picture of my poor frozen little deck pond.
I just checked the weather forcast and we are in for 2 days of snow :o In the last picture you can see a couple of the babies through the ice. I know I should put an aerator in there, but it should only be about 5 days until I can start up the filter again. Do you all think they will be okay till then?

tlc - April 19, 2008 05:35 PM (GMT)
Yep, I see some little golden guys in there! I think there is more ice build up b/c of the pump water running while the pond was freezing than there would be if it were turned off? That is what I saw when I left the spitter turned on over the winter. I had way more ice on mine but like I said I had the spitter running and the aerator going so I wasn't worried about O2. How far down from the brim of the pond is the pond water line? It looks to be about 5 or so inches from the top.
