Title: Uv Light
SadieMay - April 15, 2008 12:00 AM (GMT)
Water is hovering around 50F with the night air temps still around 35F. When is the best time I should put in the UV light...water's getting kinda dark. I lost the manual. :(

I read in a pond and garden magazine that uv lite do not really function in temps below 55 degrees. I suppose that means day and nite temps above 55. I was wondering about setting mine up this weekend, which started out great. Saturday temp was close to 80. Sunday about 65, after that it was all downhill. Temps are in the 50's and 32degrees tonite. My pond seems a little greenish, too wanted to get things under control before they got out of hand. Guess I'll just have to wait. Good luck with your pond.

Sadie, can you Google for the instruction manual for your UV?

I would think as long as the water in the line doesn't freeze, you could set it up while it's still cold. It may not work as well when the water is cold but it will still work some. Once the danger of frost/freeze is over, it should be fine to re-install the UV.

We had frost on the ground again this morning....arrrrghhhhhh. :o So think I'll wait for a bit.

Unless it gets VERY cold, the flowing water is not going to freeze.

I'am still looking for the manual for my uv clarifier. Let my husband put i away because he helped me with pond last spring. Should have known better. I do know the manual said to replace the bulb each year and that it doesn't function well after temps drop below 50-55. I'll keep looking. CHERYL

My water started darkening up..then cleared up. Still waiting for my Ebay plants so right now just have the bubble plastic from the pool floating on top. Guess it's working for sun block too...just wish it was a different color than blue. lol It did work GREAT thru the winter, let the fish have more room, plus surface protection. So not having to put in the UV light yet.

Never read no husband bashing rule, but really you don't know my husband. I know him for 40 years, take a little pitty on me.

CP, he is kidding about the no husband bashing rule. :)
We (us girls) use DH sometimes for our hubbys which can mean Dear Husband or Dumb Husband and depends on what he did or didn't do.
And after you being married for 40 years I do take pity on you! ;) :)
