Actually Tia, since you brought it up.....My 140 gallon deck pond is affectionally known as the Pecker Pond. I know you are super curious to how it got it's name?? Well it is either:

1) The first morning after installing the deck pond, I awoke to a tat tat tat noise, only to find a red headed woodpecker trying to nest in my filter.

or:

2) Upon seeing a picture of my new deck pond, a member of this forum sent me a personal message saying they thought the white spout coming out of my filter resembled a P***er.

Gee, I bet you will never guess which option it is???????

Oh. Well that explains it then. After looking at the pic again I can understand how option #2 came about but option #1 is a cute story. :rolleyes:

Yes as a matter of fact we do have lots of woodpecker's up here. At our old house down south, we had this stupid woodpecker that would come every morning and rap its beak on our metal chimney for our wood stove!!! The first time that happened you should have seen our reaction, LOL, we had no idea what the heck was going on!!!

We have a big ol' rotting maple tree beside the house. Everyone says for me to cut it down, but it has squirrels overwintering in it (I just keep thinking of Donald Duck trying to drive Chip and Dale from their tree!!) and it always has at least one, often several woodpeckers busy on it, and lord knows what other type of wild life depending on it! I may have to cut some of it down to ensure it wouldn't hit the house if it fell, but overall I want to leave it alone. :D
