My parents have a garden pond,stream,waterfall in their backyard and I have been thinking about getting them some turtles. They don't have a fence or anything to keep the turtle from leaving, but if the turtle had a mate would that keep the turtle from wandering? Any insight is appreciated.

If you don't have a way to contain them, they WILL disappear. I built a two-foot high wall of landscape blocks around mine, but they still try, though not successfully.

Having two turtles won't prevent them from running away. Turtles have a wander lust. It doesn't matter how Utopian your pond may be; they want to see what's elsewhere.
