My father caught a Green Sunfish a local pound, he is around 7 inchs! he is in a 55 gal tank he has eaten a goldfish but likes the wild minnows I had.

He was cut up and had a bloody lip when we caught him/her. So I took him'her home, and he/she has been shy but I have to get plants for the tank. He/she just barfed up a hook wich is not mine and now is happier. I am in love with him and want to keep him!

How big was the goldfish he ate? I know sunfish can eat other fish but I didn't think they were super predatory. I guess he was pretty hungry after getting nothing but hooks.

Sunfish are super predators, they eat anything, I run out of bait i can throw hook in water with no bait and catch them no problem. They will shove things in there mouth thats bigger then they can swallow. I used to have some until i released them.

Also aww to the 7inches still small, They max out at 12inches

I have caught quite a few green sunfish by accident. They have the largest mouth of all the freshwater sunfish in north America. They do have a huge appetite and mouth compared to their body size. Seven inches is rather large and it will probably eat anything it can inhale in that big mouth.
