BillBrooks - April 25, 2008 03:55 AM (GMT)
That is wild it makes me wonder how much more is below the water level, also hope none of your fish got trapped on the wrong side of that when it was moving.

Do you hunt ducks in that pond?

Or just attract them?

SadieMay - April 25, 2008 12:09 PM (GMT)
I think I would have went running if I was out there. lol :o

Route3drummer - April 25, 2008 12:11 PM (GMT)
did Leonardo DeCaprio (sp?) come to the surface with that thing? If so, run out there and push both of them back under!!! :o :D

Derrick

I think it's Little Nessie! :o

KoiKrazy - April 25, 2008 04:24 PM (GMT)
OMG please tell me that NONE of you think that is a real duck! And NO!!! I don't hunt ducks. I love them. In case you all are wondering what that cross is down there, it is for my Ducky that died. I am pretty sure most people don't get as grand of send off ;) I think I told you all about Ducky and his tragic death already? P.S. His grave looks nicer in the summer ;-)

Trust me Derrick, if Leonardo arose out of my pond, the LAST thing I would do to him is push him back under :ph43r: :ph43r: :ph43r:

I'm not sure which is creepier, the half buried angel or the fact you would save Leo...I'm thinking the later!! ;)

That's Spooky, KK!

KoiKrazy - April 26, 2008 01:11 AM (GMT)
Well we put the 12 foot boat in the pond today to go pull out the warf. All things seemed good until hubby started ramming the iceburg with the boat. I took lots of pictures cause quite frankly it was super funny! Especially when he got hung up on the iceburg and couldn't row off, LOL LOL LOL. After we pulled the boat out we were all standing there in the sun drinking a beer when we noticed bodies floating everywhere :-( Yup, I think the DH rocked lose a whole sh**load of dead babies! Yup, not too nice at all. Hopefully we will get some ducks come by for dinner or something??? I am too upset to even go down there :-( Oh....guess I should post a picture???? Or NOT????

Pool Guy - April 26, 2008 03:37 AM (GMT)
KK,
you know how we are about pictures! :)

That iceberg is really something.

"Ducky" has a great spot to rest ... I don't remember hearing about his tragic end.
(and this time I promise there will be no smart-alec response)

Ducky's Story

First of all I will keep this as short as possible!! We moved here on June 1st of 2006. On my first look at the clay pond, I noticed something floating around out there. It turned out to be a golf ball sized duckling. I ran and got everybody and we watched him all day. His mother never came. I watched "Ducky" every minute of everyday. I would run out there first thing every morning and look for him. I hung out there at night and his Mom still never showed. Ducky was an orphan. I bought him some ducky baby food but he never would eat it. I built him a couple little floating docks which he loved to hang out on so much. Once a mother mallard and her babies showed up. Little Ducky tried to join them so hard but the Mom kept attacking him. My heart just broke for Ducky. By this point I was his Mom and I was super protective of him. We watched him learn to dive and then dive for deeper and longer and I was so proud of him and the progress he was making. He was very entertaining to watch. One day (very sad day) Ducky had a broken leg. He was doing terrible, he was still swimming but it was hard. Over then next couple days he went downhill as he was getting played out. He was only 3 weeks old at this time. I went to town and bought him a pool and set it up on my deck. I made it a duck paradise and went and caught him. That was an ordeal let me tell you!!! I brought him to his pool in the day and at night I put him in a large box with water and grass etc and a heat lamp. His little leg was getting better but he wouldn't eat a damn thing. I KNEW I had to put him back in the pond. So I did. At first he did good, but after a couple of days his leg got bad again. I was devestated. I was worried that a predator would get him when he came to shore at night so I built him a duck house. EVERYONE laughed at me and told me ducks don't live in duck houses! But I built him a beauty anyhow and put it by the shore, with a hole just big enough for him to get into it. I put bark on the outside so it looked like a log of sorts. Then I prayed and prayed and prayed for this little duck to just be okay. I prayed very hard because at this point I knew he would not make it. A couple days later ducky was gone. I searched the tall grass for him for 4 days. I needed to find him. It was looking bad so I went and sat on the bank and cried. I looked at his little duck house and the light bulb kind of came on. I was like NO WAY he wouldn't be in there. Well My God, I went down there and looked in the house and there was little Ducky....dead. I never cried so hard for anyone or anything in my life. It's two years and I sit here crying as I write this. I am not a religious person but it made me somewhat as a believer because I think God put Ducky in that house for me. So you see, that is how Ducky got the grand grave and a place in my heart forever. Last year the neighbour enquired about the grave and I told him about Ducky, he said he had to apologize to me becuase it was his dog that got him and broke his leg and he said he put the little duck back by my pond. Ducky was a Bufflehead duck. Last year his Mom came and dropped her kids off again. There were 4 of them but the neighbours cat got them. This year when/if Ducky's Mom shows up and I going to shoot her :o Well I say I am but I doubt I could do it, lol, it just makes me feel good to say it!

I just read your story about Ducky to my wife. It made us both cry. Silly old man and woman sitting here crying over a duck, but your story really touched our hearts. Thanks for sharing.

Don

I'm crying too for Ducky.

It reminds me of the morning I found a fox had dug into the chicken pen and got my two favorite chickens, Salty and Beebee (the only chicken I hatched myself, then a year old rooster but sweet). That was the biggest shock, a total heart sinking moment when I saw that hole and then the blood and feathers all over. I was running around crying his name, trying to find him, but I knew. I never found him but found Salty's leg which I buried.

KoiKrazy - April 27, 2008 02:52 AM (GMT)
Gosh, that is so sad Robyn. I guess we all have one of those sad times in our life. I think it is really hard on true animal lovers to lose any kind of pet....

Thanks for your post Don :-)

Pool Guy - April 27, 2008 01:44 PM (GMT)
KK,
How on earth did he get the non-pointy end of the row boat up on the iceberg?!?
Looks like you all had a beautiful day to be outside. :) Nice pictures!

Thanks for telling us about Ducky. :( Hopefully Mama Bafflehead will learn to rear her offspring in the future.

alrighty then........ Now I am sad.The Ducky story is tragic but amazing regardless of the ending you are an outstanding human. you really are amazing.

Great pics and your husband a row boat and an iceberg. I just dont see that making it to the big screen

KoiKrazy - April 27, 2008 04:37 PM (GMT)
Thanks for all your comments about Ducky. I can't believe I still have such a hard time talking about him.

The DH got hung up on the iceburg that way because he had rowed through it and there are wheels on the bottom of the boat at the back (underwater) We have removable wheels on it for moving it around etc.

The iceburg totally melted yesterday and the pond is totally open. Hopefully that is the last weird thing that comes out of there, LOL. When I went down there this morning to check on things, there was a nice set of mallards on the pond. I hope they will stay and have their babies there! That would be really nice.

I have a question about the boat on the iceberg. Is that you standing on the shore. If it is, who took the picture and where were they standing? Looks to me whoever took it, must have been walking on water, or was the ice thick enough to walk on? Just curious.

Don

KoiKrazy - April 28, 2008 02:55 PM (GMT)
THANKS A LOT DON :P That is my MOTHER standing on the shore!!! My mother the senior citizen, lol, I will try and not take too much offense, LOL LOL just kidding :-) I took the picture, lol, but I just used my telephoto lens to get a close up!

I am suprised no one commented on my beer bottle sitting on Ducky's grave, lol. I thought I would get harrassed for that one, but......it's the only flat spot on the bank and Ducky is used to it by now ;)

Route3drummer - April 28, 2008 04:00 PM (GMT)
I just find a beer bottle sitting anywhere is a very natural thing! :D

frogman3 - April 28, 2008 07:02 PM (GMT)
So your mom was supervising which makes the DH not responsible for running into the iceburg. :P Women can't give direction either ;) BTW I can't see the face of you mom standing on the shore.

LOL, ya I know! I thought about that after I said that, LOL. My Mom is a very beautiful lady. She is 67, she says my Dad is a senior citizen but she is NOT. I still find it hard to think of my parents as old! They are really into this pond thing these days so it is cool, cause they are always buying things for it, lol, so it helps cut my costs!! We are also really enjoying the Mallards that have made their home on the clay pond. It's nice now that it has warmed up to be able to take a cup of coffee in the morning and go inspect the ponds! Guess Spring has finally arrived! :D

Robyn - April 29, 2008 08:57 PM (GMT)
My mom's the same way! She's 64, and my dad's almost 69. She says he's an old man but she's young! She gets mad about the Senior Citizen discounts if they pertain to her!

KoiKrazy - April 30, 2008 12:14 AM (GMT)
Too funny, I am SURE we will be exactley the same way one day, LOL

SadieMay - April 30, 2008 01:16 AM (GMT)
When my parents became 'of age' they were like 'YIPPEE'...discount time. Everything and anything...if there was a senior discount, they earned, they went for it. :D

If you checked my profile, then you saw the picture of my wife, my dogs and me. How do you like that pretty young chick I'm married to? Her birthday is Dec 25, 1943.

The dogs keep the buzzards away!

Actually, I was born in Altoona, Pa and we had no car until we moved to Illinois. I also found out that my grandmother was first of our family born outside the Amish community. Seems her father was banished from the community for marrying an outsider. I thank my great-grandfather for that or I WOULD still be driving a horse and buggy! My sister has a chocolate shop in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, Florida and has a little blurb on her website about our Amish ancestry and their candymaking. If you'd like to check out her site here it is:

Hope you had a marvelous birthday when you turned senior. I remember mine as being somewhat traumatic.
