Title: Snake Phobias?

I really wonder sometimes why so many people hate snakes. Someone I know told me about how he recently tortured one by shooting it with an air rifle and chopping it up with a hoe. and I really couldn't believe what I heard. He didn't even make an effort to kill it humanely, and there was absolutely no reason he told me about *needing* to kill it.

Snakes can be venomous and all, and they're predatory creatures, but that's no reason to hate them. They're beautiful and important animals and while they can be dangerous, I really get sick thinking about people who inhumanely and needlessly kill snakes for being snakes.

I recently had to rescue one from my kitten; it had a flesh wound on his tail but slithered away pretty quickly, so I guess it wasn't too severe. I'm glad I found it in time.

I like snakes, but we don't have very many around here at all.

I don't like snakes but I don't want anybody to kill them. I guess I watched the Crocodile Hunter too long!

I hate snakes thanks to my cousins! They would put them on me (down my pants one time). I had my dad teach me how to box after that. :ph43r:
I am scared to death of them but I don't kill them. If I see one you will see me turn around, then there is a big cloud of dust and I am out of there! :o ;)

Snakes are worse than frogs in my horror department. We have quite a few yucky ones around the big pond. Last summer my neighbour picked up a snake and chased me with it, the whole time slapping in on the back of my neck. I just loved how my guard dog just sat there entertained by it all and didn't bite his a** I was lucky enough to run by the firepit and grab the poker stick and stab him with it for him to back off, I threw my shoulder out with all the backwards stabbing while running! I don't know which I hate more, snakes or my stupid neighbour! I wouldn't kill a snake, or any animal for that matter, I would just prefer that snakes didn't exsist!

KK that's some mental image that you just described. Do they believe in the death penalty up your way for murder? ;)

:o I am shocked.

If I were you, I honestly probably would be scared spitless of snakes myself.

Your neighbor is an orifice for semi-solid nitrogenous waste product! You should have been in my science class. For many years, I had a Kingsnake named Bill who was handled and loved by hundreds and hundreds of kids over the years. I can't even estimate how many snake phobias were put to rest by good old gentle Bill. He loved white mice. The kids would scream when he constricted them and swallowed them whole. Then they would say, "Give him another one". Bill was more than twenty-years-old when he passed on and I still run into former students, now adults, who ask me if I still have Bill and tell me how much they liked him and got over their fear of snakes.
