Description: for Don

Well I am learning so much stuff. I guess since I am on bed rest I might as well learn stuff on my area. Thanks goodness for laptops :-) This is for Don, who has prompted me to learn something about frogs and toads, LOL. I have learned that I live in a small section of my province known as the Peace Lowland Ecosection. What we have here are: Western Toad (which I have in the pond) Wood Frog and the Boreal Chorus Frog, which I haven't seen but would like to as they are small and not too frightening looking! The only snake we have is the Garter, which they say is rare, but I have seen a few. So that is it! I guess in a region close to me they have Long-Toed Salamanders, but thank goodness, NOT HERE!!!! Now I am interested in this Boreal Chorus Frog! I am going to be on the lookout. So I feel all good and proud that I know something about what lives here! It is not something I ever cared about before but it is kind of cool. Hope I didn't bore the ones of you that read this, LOL

P.S. I took a picture of muskeg the other day while I was on a bit of a road trip. It's a southern example so it isn't quite the same as the big ones north of here, but it will give you a picture anyhow!

Glad to see your interest. I find it amazing how living things can adapt to the most severe conditions. Everywhere we look, we find life. Must be a general characteristic of the cosmos.

That's a beautiful picture! I'd like to be able to spend time in an area like that someday.

Only evergreens and brush, no hard woods. Looks strange to me, but very nice as well.

Yes, it is kind of boring that ol' muskeg! When you get north of us a bit where the true muskeg starts, you see lots of larch trees in the muskeg as well. They are a sign of true muskeg.
