I have my 250 gal preformed with rocks that lay around it to cover the lip i want a waterfall. I have moved rocks stakced rocks looked at rocks talked to the rocks and i got nothing i am to affraid something will happen that all the water will go out (atleast to the first shelf where that pump sits) I put some liner behind it but it just is not right I need one by the 30th (my daughterS HIgh SCHOOL GrADUAtiON) I can get a preformed but I would really like to make one and i am stumped
I understand the pump hose concept it is the structure that i have problems with

Hi Chris! I find the best thing to do is get on the internet and start looking at pictures! If I can see it then I can build it. My problem is lacking any kind of creative imagination to start it in the first place, LOL. You are probably going to have to build a little "hill" of dirt, then design the dirt, then add your liner, then add the rocks. I will take a boo today and see if I can find anything for you! Good Luck! KK
And here I thought that I was the only person on earth that had to get a waterfall done before my Daughter's graduation!
I agree with KK as far as what I have already planned to do. I have already formed the contours of the waterfall with sand. It is important to make sure you don't build up too much sand as it will settle. Especially if you pile big rocks on top. Use a level often to determine how the water will flow. When I am satisfied I will lay the liner down and test it with a hose. I have already ordered my liner (5'x12').
I have to say that I have moved rocks all over for a year also and I realize now that this is more engineering than just building a pond!
Good Luck! I hope to see it when done!

Well I used Mother day to finish my waterfall.
Now I can start with the "I shouldas' " that might help you with yours.
It is about 10' long and 3' high. With my 450 g/hr pump it is slowed to about 250-300. So it is more of a trickling waterfall right now. I will plan a bigger pump for later.
I did contour the base with sand and packed it down as much as I could. Then an underlayment, then the liner went down all the way to the pond overlapping the pond liner. Then the rocks went down. Very easy really (except for moving all of the rocks!).
I have two small pools draining over about a foot vertical drop each. I had hoped that these would create a splashy effect but the water mostly just runs behind the rocks that are at the base. Hardly visible. I am a bit disappointed at that. I plan to use small pieces of liner to help direct the water to run over rocks wherever I can to improve the visual effect.
I used several rocks with flat bottoms like the type rocks that have been split . I found that when water runs over a such a rock it tends to run right off the edge.
Anyway, now I will need a week to recover....!
Good luck!
