Title: Vacations
Route3drummer - May 9, 2008 12:04 PM (GMT)
What do people do with their ponds (and I guess tanks now that I am thinking of it) when they go away for a week or so, for a vacation or business trip? Will everything "usually" be ok for that length of time? Mainly wondering about feedings, etc. Do you have someone come and do it, or will a week scavanging on their own be ok for them? Lord knows they have enough algae to eat and keep them full for a lifetime!!!

When I DID take a vacation away from home, the cats had bowls and pans by the hundreds in the house, and the dogs stayed in the kennel ( autofed water and AC in the doghouse). A friend came by everyday to check on the dogs...only needed dry food. And to just look at the pond for water level. Since the pond we've only been gone for weekends anyway, but before that it was for a week. Now, in June, I'm going to Ky. and in probably in July DH is going to Vt. Are vacations supposed to be together?

Not if you're lucky Sadie!!! LOL
Thanks guys. I could get someone to swing by if we decide to go anywhere. Went to London about 5 years ago, but haven't been anywhere since.
As it stands now, I want to go to Scotland, but the DW wants to go to the Dominican Republic. I'm not a beach person, so Maybe I'll go one way and she can go the other!! :o

| Vacation, what's that? |
Robyn, it sounds as if you need one more than any of us!!
When we go away for more than a few days, we use an automatic feeder for the aquarium.
The one I got is called the AquaChef. It uses two AA batteries (included), and has a digital display. It's somewhat easy to programme ... that's if you don't rely on the instructions too much. A couple of the steps were incorrect, but I just kept pushing buttons until I got it to work properly.
There are automatic feeders made for ponds also ... but I didn't see the need for one, since there is always some winged bug or two falling in the water.
Plus they have their "salad" to eat, in the form of algae.

I agree, Robyn needs a vacation....or even just a getaway. :D I know 2 people that 'swear by' the all day spa treatments. They can be pricey, but sometimes just a few hours of 'ALL ME DAY' is worth it's weight in gold. :D
