Title: Aquarium Question...

Is there any way to de-tox an aquarium once it's been bleached? I'm looking at buying a used one for cheap but the owner used BLEACH in it...so silly of him. Anyway, this tank would be for my 2 goldfish who are currently residing in a 20 gal but I'm looking to upgrade 'cause it's getting mighty crowded...they're both going on 7 or 8 inches. Would they be happy in a 30 gal or should I look at getting an even bigger one? I think the biggest I can go is 50 (limited space) but is that a little extreme for just 2 goldfish?

Mk, scratch that...I am down to just one goldfish. Her tankmate died this morning...cause of death is unknown. I'm not kidding, I'm stumped. Anyway, I'm still considering a larger tank because the surviving goldfish is my fav anyway and I have no qualms with spoiling pets.

Sorry about your fish. I'm not a good aquarium person ( mine is nicknamed the death tank ) but mine was bleached out and then I just washed and rinsed it really good. Don't go by me tho....the tank people will give you the answer.

As long as they didn't use a ton of bleach or for a long time, you can make the tank safe again. First, rinse it a lot. Hopefully, then you won't smell much bleach. Then, fill it up with water and four times the normal dechlorinator dosage (anything that says it gets rid of chlorine, such as tap water condioner). You can also be checking for leaks or other problems at that time. I would let it soak in the dechlorinator for a day to deactivate any remaining bleach that may have been in the silicon for example. Then, dump that water and start fresh. I'm assuming this is a standard glass tank?

I'm sure the goldfish will enjoy the new tank. I'm sorry that you lost the other one. Good luck!
