Title: A Couple Pics Of My Koi This Spring.
BillBrooks - May 12, 2008 06:47 PM (GMT)
Most of my koi and goldfish made thru the winter and the water has warmed up enough to start giving them some food. I took a couple pics of them so I thought I would share them here also.

As you can see the algae bloom is already in full swing, my skippy filter bactieria must take some time to kick in in cold water.
I also took a pic of a hawk that landed in a tree near my pond I watched him for some time out my window and don't think he had any interest in my koi, I was a little worried thou.

I also took a pic of some cool looking wild flowers not sure what they are yet.

The flowers look like crocus. Although they're from bulbs, so I don't know how they'd be "wild".

Nice Pix Bill! Your water looks like mine :P

Did a little searching on the net and the flower is a pasque flower a wild crocus.
I hope the water clears up soon.

Sounds like most of us are struggling with the green water issue right now. I think I have had my barley bales in there for over a week so they aren't working yet! I think we need a seperate section on algae! LOL

I have two barley bales in my skippy filter been there just over a week, and I also took my waterfall pump apart and cleaned out some small sticks that made it into the impeller so the flow is much better now.
It sure was a pain pulling out the pump from my pump box I also put in some unions in the pipe so next time it will come out much faster.
My water lillies are finially starting to show up near the surface and I added some water lettuce again in skippy filter as my koi love to eat those.
Next I will be getting some more water plants.
My water is getting a little bit better but still has a long way to go.

this afternoon I added a 400 gallon in pond filter attached to a small pump in hope of it helping to clear up the water a little faster. I put it in the bottom of the larger of the 2 stock tanks. I am just letting the water flow out of the pump without any attachements. I don't know if it is helping, but tonight I actually could see a few of the fish swimming around! Now I have a 1500g filter and that one in such a small pond, it HAS to do something good I am thinking!
