Title: Destruction Day
Description: worried!!!

KoiKrazy - May 14, 2008 04:09 PM (GMT)
Well I guess I am going to start wrecking the pond today. I am sooo nervous. I will pull the filter first and empty it out and then connect the other stock tank to it and set up the filter and pump system and pump the water in there and try it out. Then......I will have to pump out the pond and catch the fish and move them to the clay pond and some to the new temporary set up. Since I am home alone I am thinking this is a dumb a** move to do today. I am going to have to get in there with a ladder and then once I net the fish I don't know how I am going to get them out of that hole with my dumb back?? Oh well, I guess I better quit talking about it and just do it already. Hopefully I will be able to take a few pictures of my progress. Hopefully I don't get stuck in there. Hopefully this goes smoother than I think it will, LOL

I hope it goes well for you KK! Dont work TOO hard!

KoiKrazy - May 14, 2008 06:30 PM (GMT)
So far so good. I got the temporary pond all set up and functioning. Here is a picture, lol, ya I know it is more than tacky looking but it will keep them happy until the new pond is built. Off to drain the pond and start the fun job of catching the fish.

It could look worse...Im waiting to build my willife pond..that's going to be fun....Probebly bad for my main pond though as it will hold a lot more stuff before the wildlife pond is complete.

Hopefully, all those dewhickeys will protect the fish! I hope you didn't fall in your pond since you haven't posted since you went in! I could imagine a news story - "Crazy woman air lifted out of deep pit trying to catch fish" and footage of you flying through the air on a stretcher.

KoiKrazy - May 14, 2008 10:39 PM (GMT)
LOL LOL, yes, I can picture that one, LOL. No I am fine! I decided to wait to get the fish out till tomorrow when my Mom and Dad get home so they can keep an eye on me  Once I got the ladder out and my chest waders on I started to get nervous and chickened out! I did get a bunch of plants planted in pots getting ready for the new pond area and rock garden! Yes, those dewhickeys are quite a ghastley site all in one area, LOL. I have to laugh when I look at it. All it needs now is a couple of garden knomes, LOL LOL

It'll be time consuming but what if you tie a bucket/rope to a bumper just into the water level....get in, net the fish. Then climb out and hoist the bucket up?? Said it'd be time consuming. :P

Why can I see that?!

Good Luck KK

Good one SadieMay! I think I will go to town in the a.m. and buy one of those huge buckets with the rope handles and I can lower and raise it with the Quad winch :-) I think that would work! Thanks :D

Hi KK , what type of new liner did you decide to go with, since your last one was pvc and leaked ? Epdm is heavy, and expensive to ship. Did you look at btl liners?

Hi Froggy, I am still trying to track down a liner. I am not having much luck so far as the shipping to all the way up here is BAD! It's $350 to come from Vancouver and the liner is $2500, the smaller size liner would still be $1900 and the same $350 shipping. I don't know what a btl liner is or where I would find one but I will see if I can find a supplier for them somewhere. I am still waiting to hear back from Home Hardware, guess I should just go there and bug them again tomorrow. The whole process is driving me nuts.

I wouldn't call it tacky .... kitschy maybe, but not tacky. ;) :)

I like it!! It's a heck of lot better than just looking at the tubs.
All those things might help deter a predator as well.
Good idea to tier the containers.

Glad to hear that you're waiting to have another person or two around before you climb down into the abyss.
Hope your fish wrangling goes well. :) Thanks for the picture!

Are you salvaging the old liner to use with something? If not, just start throwing rocks in. The fish will get out of the way, and eventually you will fill it in enough that the fish will come up to you! hahaha

Either way, be careful. Remember you have a bad back....and you aren't 20 years old anymore you know! I don't mean that as an insult, just a reality. We tend to forget we can't do everything we could do 20 years ago (or in your case 10 years ago. ;) ). Besides, you can take comfort knowing you will always be younger than me!! hahaha :D

Thanks Derrick! I am totally aware I am not 20 anymore :P Funny thing has happened though....now that 40 is approaching FAST, I have decided I am old and that I know longer have to care as much. I have avoided the sun for years for fear of wrinkles and I don't have any! So....all week long I have been in my bikini worshipping the God of Sun, LOL. I figure...what the heck! I don't care what the neighbours think and I don't care if I finally get a wrinkle, LOL So am just out there playing in the pond and planting my flowers, and not having a care in the world. NO I AM NOT going to throw rocks in my pond! I love my fish :o I am going to get in there and get them out safely (hopefully) I have moved my new shubunkins outside and they are waiting to go to their new home. It's 80F outside at 9:30 this morning already. It's a beautiful day again, a good one to do this fish stuff as soon as the "oldsters" get home to babysit me! I need to get some video footage of this!
I am not saving the old liner, but I want the geotextile liner out from underneath the sides to use in the new pond.

Sorry it took so long but here is the web site http://www.btlliners.com/ where i will be purchasing my liner for my larger pond. the liner size of 34 x 25 will cost only $70.00 ups since this material is much lighter than EPDM. Look at the specs on this material and you will notice it is rated to - 65 degrees F has unbelievable cut through resistance. underlayment is not even needed unless you are placing large boulders. cost for the PPL-36 is only 44 cents per sq ft which is no more expensive than EPDM. Check it out ask for Ron. They do ship to Canada just don't know what service reaches your zip.

Awesome! Thanks for the info Froggy, I will check it out forsure! Hubby told me to go ahead and hire someone to do the new pond if I want. I don't know if I like that idea, but then I start thinking about supervising a crew of nice looking young men, from my lounge chair while sipping a G&T and it just purely brings a smile to my face, LOL LOL. Oopps, sorry, had to smack myself :P
