Title: Must Stop Buying Stuff!!!

Route3drummer - May 16, 2008 12:40 PM (GMT)
Lately it seems like every day there is something I want to buy for the pond. Lately it has been plants.
I planted a bunch Wed. night, and was expecting another box to arrive yesterday, but it didn't. Hopefully today. So since they didn't arrive I went shopping! LOL...I bought a "venturi vacuum" for doing small clean ups and water changes in the pond, I got some activated charcoal to try and help cleaning up the water (funny though. I had nothing to put it in, so after much thought I came to the conclusion a leg of my DW's nylons would be perfect! Fortunately she wasn't home, so I cut one leg off of a pair of her nylons. That may sound funny now, but trust me, it is going to be A LOT funnier when she pulls them out of the drawer to put them on some time and one leg is missing!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA). Anyway, I put the "leg" under some rocks in the stream where water falls onto it. We shall see if it helps. I also bought a pile of annuals. I was reading about basic hydroponics some yesterday, so I had the idea of putting these in the stream/falls. I washed all of the dirt off of the roots and placed them in spots where the water could slowly flow over the roots, then placed small rocks around the roots and the plants to anchor them. I had read of other people do similar things with Impatience, but I didn't get any of those because the bugs always devour them. I got some other stuff though. Again, we shall see.

On a side note, I think Wayne is going to drive down here and kick my a#@. I am good at making money, and have gotten good at spending it, but am terrible at keeping track of it. I let the DW do that part. She pays the bills and stuff. So after I told her of my recent purchases last night (well, some of them at least.... :D ) I asked her if she had sent Wayne's check. I wont repeat her exact words (might be minors reading), but it went something like "You bought the %#$$!ing magazine, you send the **&%^!@ing check"......Check will be out Monday!! hahaha

Ain't married like fun!!

ROFLMAO!!!! That's too funny Derrick....Yup being married to a non-ponder does have it's consequences :( I have a "pond house" on the brain again. I am going to try and talk to the hubby about it again when he gets home from camp. I imagine he will use some of the pretty words your wife used, LOL

Route3drummer - May 16, 2008 05:13 PM (GMT)
Pond house? I am almost afraid to ask.....we aren't talking anything that needs to be built on stilts are we? :D

KoiKrazy - May 16, 2008 06:52 PM (GMT)
No, LOL. I want an insulated garden shed type idea with lights and heat so I can put a raised pond in there and keep the fish in there over winter :D

Derrick, I've put impatiens and some other plants in the waterfall and shallow areas of the pond before. Some have done really well. I grow impatiens in a floating island thing because, if the deer can reach them, there are no more impatiens!

I think I have you beat with having bought too much pond stuff! Probably a quarter of the basement is pond stuff! I've used old pantyhose in my aquariums for various reasons. If you ask your wife, she probably has a bunch with runs in them that she could give you. Cutting off the foot off her good pair probably won't impress her.

KK, could you build an addition on to the house with a green house, heated koi pond? I mean if your hubby, money, time, etc. weren't an issue? :D
It would be easier to heat it if it were attached to a building that already has heat.

KK..instead of a pond house how about a 4 season sunroom/greenhouse that just happens to have a pond in it. ;)

KoiKrazy - May 19, 2008 05:05 PM (GMT)
Now that sounds even better SadieMay!! That way I wouldn't have to keep playing musical ponds, LOL. That situation would just about cure all the pond problems I have. I gotta keep working on the hubby as it will be expensive so it will need to be done right the first time. It won't be this year I don't think as we need all new doors for the house etc. :-( and the garden doors I want are $$

Most ppl have the beer fridge out on the porch or in the garage where it is handy. ;)
KK you can put R3D3 in the garage then with the fridge.
