Title: How To Add Dechlorinator

I was thinking the other day about when to add the dechlor. I usually make up a couple of 40 gallon buckets of tap water and add the dechlor and scoop it into the pond with a cup because the buckets are too heavy to lift. I'm seriously considering buying a tiny pump to put into the bucket so that I'm not standing there hunched over the pond trying to get the water in.

Could i just run the hose and add the dechlor directly to the pond? Or does that do too much damage?

I bought a $10.00 water meter off E-bay that attaches to my hose that measures up to 100 gallons then starts over. For the declor I use the crystals desolve them in a small bucket pour it in, then add the metered water. Works for me.

Yes, you can just run the hose. As long as you don't change a lot of water at once, the fish shouldn't be exposed to chlorine for too long. Aim the hose across the water so it ripples. That helps to oxygenate the water, mix the new and old water, and dissipate more chlorine. I would add half your dose of dechlorinator (for the amount being changed) before putting in the hose and half afterwards. Too much dechlorinator isn't great for the fish but neither is chlorine.

If you want it is easy to just take any piece of hose and use it as a siphon to take the water from bucket to pond. Assuming you don't want to "suck start" the water in the hose, just submerge it in the bucket so that the hose is full of water, put your finger over the end that will go in the pond, keeping the other end submerged in the bucket, put the pond over the pond, remove finger. Bucket will need to sit higher than pond, but gravity will drain the bucket into the pond for you. :D
