Title: Cold Water Catfish

TommyTurtle - March 23, 2004 05:14 PM (GMT)
What would be a good catfish for a cold water aquarium? This tank currently houses five goldfish, the largest about 4.5 inches long. There is no heater in the tank. I am looking for a catfish that can survive in a coldwater enviroment, keep things clean on the bottom, and add some interest to my aquarium.

Thanks!

How cold is the tank? Unfortunately, most catfish are predatory in some manner and will try to eat your goldfish one day. Corydoras catfish are an exception but most need it to be at least 70 degrees F. Also, when my fantail was injured years ago, my panda cories did nibble at her fins. Algae-eating catfish may suck on goldfish as well (plecos, ottos, etc.) but some of them can take it down to about 65 degrees F. You might consider a weather loach which is not a catfish but might work.
