Title: Adf's
Description: I FINALLY got some!!

kENNY - December 28, 2008 12:53 AM (GMT)
I got 2 ADF's today along with a HEAVY piece of driftwood with an anubias(I attached a SM Java Fern to it too) for my 5gal today! I do have a question. When I bought them, I asked the girl if they had any "blackworms" and she looked at me funny and had a confused look on her face and said no. Soooo, I am feeding them Tubifex Worms for the time being...Will they be ok on this for a while? I do need the blackworms I know, but I can't seem to find any, so I have to order them which will take a while.

On a different subject, I got a FM CT betta while I was there too. She looked like she needed a good home...So she lives in my 2.5gal for the time being.

There used to be worries about tubifex worms because they came from dirty water but I don't think that's the case anymore. Do you mean live tubifex? I've actually never seen any sold live. Or perhaps you meant freeze dried? If you can't get live blackworms, you can get some on-line but they will send a ton of them! Or, you can try frozen bloodworms (do not over use these as they are not nutritional complete), mosquito larvae, and other insect larvae and worms. Good luck with the ADF's!

For those who do not know, ADF = African dwarf frog.

No, they are dead and freeze dried. I guess I will have to order them because I can't find any (I called the other petco, the petstore and petsmart) I guess I shouldn't worry to much about it because they are SOO active and apparently, eating the worms and such and are happy. I worry too much.

Here's the biggest seller of blackworms:

http://www.aquaticfoods.com/

I would contact them to see if you can get a small portion. You certainly don't need pounds of them! They have to be kept in the refrigerator. Mine do well in there for a few months but then usually die off (starvation I assume since I don't feed them). They will survive in the aquarium alive and even breed in there so it's okay to put a little extra in. I have a colony in my 20 gallon tank gravel and add more daily for the ADF and fish.

Thank you for the link Robyn!! I'll try to contact them Monday...and see if I can get like a small colony? When you gravel vac, do they get sucked out? Do you save them?

Yes, there are a few blackworms in the bathtub after gravel vacuuming the 20 gallon tank. Nope, I don't try to save them. Cryerbaby

Hi Kenny/ Robyn
We have used tubifex worms here in the UK before but nowadays you seem to see less and less of it (unless freeze dried) but Black worms ?

B&V, That's what I'm using...Freeze Dried Tubifex Worms. I've never seen them alive...but have heard bad things about them. Black worms are live, so the frogs will better enjoy that than the dead Tubifex Worms.
Robyn, I seen your new Lizard. He's cool! Your lucky...I can't have a lizard.

Hi Kenny
tubifex and sewer outlets go together, most of the shops we use do keep tubifex in the sink under running water, this helps keep it as fesh as possible. :)
