i have had what seems like a million baby ghost shrimp in a fish bowl for about 2 1/2 weeks. we decided to try to raise them to show our 3 yr old the other side of tank life after her beloved betta died. we bought them and noticed one was carrying eggs, it seemed like a good idea to try to hatch them. they seem to be fine swimming all over the place and all but we are starting to wonder how long it will be until they are big enough to join the tank-the bowl water is getting pretty gross- the tank contains 2 snail, 3 ghost shrimp, 2 dwarf frogs, 1 betta, 2 cory cats.....
thanks for ur help
Ghost shrimp take a few months to grow up large enough to not be eaten by the adult shrimp and fish. How fast they grow depends on the food, temperature, room, etc. If you have a "million" in a bowl, they will probably eat each other until only a few big ones remain. Since you have so many, you could try putting some back into the main tank. Any small ones that they can get, the fish will eat ASAP. I would wait until they are at least 1 cm long before adding them with the animals that you have. Even at that size, the betta, cories, and frogs might still be able to eat them. By 2 cm in size, they should be safe.
thanks- i do notice a few that are quite a bit bigger then the others, i will try to get some out. i suppose they will make a nice treat for the tank fish.
