This is about the nicest website that I have seen on turtles, thank you, I have a two year old red eared something, guess I can go look not and tell if it is a male or female, not that it makes a difference, but I also have two little guys that are about the size of a silver dollar that I have inherited. They are in separate tanks, little ones in one and big one in other, am making a pond outside but is it safe to put all three in one pond or will the big guy hurt the little ones, and yes I am going to net my pond. My grandchildren think that they are the greatest things to watch, but want to know if they can talk to one another, since they do not bark or anything. HELP do not have an answer to that one. thank you once again and I can assure you that I will be a frequent visitor. jo

Have you read these pages on my site for more information:

If the pond is netted, then hopefully predators won't get the two babies. If the pond is big enough with lots of plants and cover, the two-year-old red-eared slider should not bother the babies. At that age, he's still almost a baby himself (or herself!).

Turtles make a few noises. They sort of hiss (blow air fast out, usually opening their mouth) when bothered by predators including humans they don't like. They don't really talk to each other in any way as far as sounds go. They do touch each other, especially males courting females. Many reptiles also wave at each other. My lizard does that to her reflection, and I've seen turtles wave. It's a slow up and down hand motion.
