My husband and I are thinking of getting chickens. We are learning as much as we can. The only thing we haven't found out is if we can go away for the weekend. Fri. to Sun. night. Is it possible?? Thanks, Jessika
It's always best to have someone check on them if you can to take care of their food and water and be sure everything's fine. If that's not possible, if you leave out plenty of food and water, and they are secure from predators, it is probably fine to leave them for a weekend. The biggest thing would be water, especially in the summer. Chickens are prone to spilling and pooping in their water so I always check the water in our chicken pen twice a day. If you have to leave, be sure to put out multiple water sources including both a bowl and one of the gravity-waterers so they should have some water, even if it's not clean. Try as I do to keep my chickens' water clean, they won't stop fouling it. I'm sure plenty of people go away for weekends and leave their chickens behind.

Thank you so much!! We still are not too sure if we are going to go on this adventure. (Chickens) We have a small back yard and two kids. My husband and I are both city folks! We are learning all we can, to insure happy healthy chickens and people. So we are trying to weigh everything out. :D
