Hi Robyn-
Now that my fish are active and feeding, I am able to get a good look at them. I noticed tht my yellow metallic ogon Koi has, what I can describe as orange spots on him/her. They are not red or ulcerous looking. He/she is swimming, socializing and eating well. All the other fish look great. Could these be "age spots"? This Koi is almost 12" and the smaller of the two I have. It has been in the pond since last spring.
Any thoughts?
My white koi has black spots on him, not the tiny ones indicative of disease, but larger ones that come and go. I don't worry about it too much. It could be from an injury or perhaps carp pox which is a virus that doesn't harm the fish. Your koi's spots are orange which may just be a variation in the scales, just as goldfish change color, so can koi. If your Ogon is not completely "purebred," he/she is more apt to have other colors appear. As long as the spots look just like a color change (not enlarged, bleeding, fungused, infected, bumpy, lumpy, etc.), I wouldn't worry.
