Title: Pothos In Pond

momfish - April 28, 2005 01:37 AM (GMT)
Hi Robyn-

I was just wondering if it is safe to put pothos in the pond. I am planting it along the edges and at the waterfall. I've been growing it indoors and thought it would do well in the pond since it grows so well in just water.
Thanks.

I'd never heard of "pothos" so I just looked it up. It's also called "Devil's Ivy." That doesn't sound too enticing! I tried to find out if it's poisonous (to fish anyway), and this site (and some others that I found) says it's poisonous (to humans I presume):

That doesn't necessarily rule it out for use around the pond if the fish can't eat the leaves (can't reach them), etc. So, as long as the cuttings are out of the reach of the fish, it's probably safe to plant it around the pond.

Thanks Robyn. I will plant them in the biofalls, safely away from the fishes.

Last year I placed a pothos vine in my pond and it did just fine.....
