Title: Algae Control
Description: Algae Control on Rocks

I have string algae which I manually remove w/my golf ball retreiver, works great. I recently placed a WaterWych in the pond to help w/growth of algae. I can't seem to get the algae growing on the rocks off. The rocks look very nice but now they are all hairy looking and when I try to pull them off , it doesn't come off. What can I do to remove the algae from the rocks and are they the same species of algae?

Connie

I hope this is the right place to respond. You asked the length of the algae, some are long and stringy, I'm pretty sure it is hair algae, I planted watercress. The algae on the rocks is short but that's because I'm trying to pull if off the rocks. Will they ever come off?

How long is the algae? There are many species. The algae growing in the waterfall is acting to help filter your water so it's good for your pond. I manually remove a little algae if it grows in the falls, and I don't want it there for aesthetic reasons. If you plant some plants in there, they may replace the algae (that's if you want plants in there). I have watercress and water celery in my waterfalls.
