Title: Private Sale Of Amphibians, Legality

Robyn,

Do you have any idea as to where I must go to find out if it is lawful, i.e. in NJ, to:

1. Raise [following introduction] indigenous frogs and toads in my garden pond; other then the bullfrog.

2. More interestingly, to sell frogs and tadpoles that come of breeding in the pond?

It is probably legal to, for instance, introduce green frogs to my yard pond.

However, I have no idea as to whether it would be lawful for me so commercially sell tadpoles - i.e. online. Perhaps, permits and liscenses are required. If it is not legal, I wouldn't opt to do it, personally, and IF it is, it could be a good idea, considering how many tadpoles would hatch and reach maturity in a 5000 gal., plant filled, fishless, fenced in pond - the same for yourself. I see people selling tadpoles on ebay, but they are from other states.

I'm not sure. It's probably fine for you to add store-bought tadpoles and have them breed. As for then selling the tadpoles, I think you'd need various permits for that. Check with the NJ DNR.
