Hi i wonder if you could help me.

My dad has made a pond,we got a pump and filter, and got the ph of the water just about right.

We let the pond settle for a week, then on saturday we got 5 ghost carp,we did everything the garden centre told us but the fish dont seem to be eating.

I feed them in the evening, and yesterday a couple of them came up to the surface to feed.but tonite they wernt interested!

Im very worried they will starve, and want to know why they wont eat!

Im feeding them koi floting food.

How do i know if they like it??

I'm sorry if these are silly questions, this is our first pond and i dont know what to do

We have had them for 5 days now including the saturday we got them :(

Please help

Don't panic. Koi can go days or even weeks without eating much. When added to a new pond, the fish are going to be scared until they settle in. They will want to hide and have to get used to the fact that they are safe and that you will provide food at a certain time of the day. Once they learn the routine, they should eat well. For now, put the food out but not that much of it to avoid waste. Once they start coming, you can feed normal amounts. They may also come to feed after you're out of sight. They will naturally hide from shadows until they learn the routine and patterns of their new life.

As far as the food goes, some brands are tastier and/or better than others. If you got a name brand, it should be fine as long as the food has not expired. You might try feeding a more expensive brand at first to get them interested. Right now, my fish are eating Pond Care Spring/Autumn food and Cheerios!

Thank you so much for your reply! :D

I think my fish have started to eat now,....they were only about 3 inches long,so we decided to try them on fish flakes(we wondered if the floting food was too big??)

This is a wonderful website, ive got a few more questions on ponds in general i will post on the pond forum.

thanx alot x
