Robyn,
If you ever stop in Lowe's, you will find an assort. of aq. plants; there are red and pink lilies - the label says hardy - doesn't specify the type - anyway i can find out the type - do you think that a photo of the blooms would be sufficient for a lily savy ponder?
You want to know the specific variety? I wouldn't be able to tell but those who breed lilies for a living can probably tell you that it looks like a whatever. The thing is that a lot of those generic lilies may in fact be mixed varieties and not a "purebred."
I am very happy with the lillies I bought at Lowe's!! One has small leaves (floating) and the other has larger ones. The small one is verigated, with stripes of light green. Suposed to have two colors of flowers, but none yet. I'm wondering whether I can place them in pea gravel in a mesh pot so they will grow bigger! Is that a good idea?
Thanks.
Your pictures are great!
Lilies with veriagated leaves are often tropical. Waterlilies whose flowers change color each day they're open are called changeables. What do you have your lilies in now? I recommend clay soil in a holeless pot topped with pea gravel for lilies. While they can grow in just gravel in a mesh pot, I think they do better in soil.
My husband and I got some of those lilies from Lowes for our pond when they first came out and they are still doing good! I love mine as well! Home Depot had some too but Lowes lilies are much better!
