Title: Fugus And Missing Toenails
Description: HELP PLEASE!

I wanted to start my thanking you for your webpage; it has proved very helpful to me in taking care or a turtle that was given to me. I have one question however, on your site you showed pictures of your turtle that had a mild fungus on her back foot which caused her to loose a few toenails. My turtle appears to have the same problem (although there is less swelling) and I was wondering what I could do for that. Thanks so much and I look forward to hearing back from you!

Sincerely,
Jessica

Adding aquarium salt to the water at a tablespoon per gallon will help fight off both fungal and bacterial infections. If the fungus is bad, then sulfa drugs can be used. There's a yellow turtle-shaped thing called Dr. Turtle that contains those and can help. Here is a store selling it (I just did a quick search and know nothing about that store; I just want to show you what I'm talking about.):

Also, this page has some info on treating snapping turtles (the info should also work for other species just as well):
