Hi, i have 3 male cherry barbs and 2 female cherry barbs in a 20 gallon. I am giving one of my males away to a friend who needs another male. I see the males turn cherry red and chase around the females. I then see them go into all the plants in my tank. I look for eggs but i cant find any or fry the next day. Do the females get pregnant or do they just lay the eggs on things right away?

The females will become egg-laden but with small egg-laying fish, that occurs over maybe a week with her only becoming slightly larger than normal. Then, she will go with the male to release the eggs in the plants. Cherry barb eggs are very tiny, and the parents (and other fish if present) will do their best to eat the eggs and any fry that hatch. A female may spawn weekly in optimum conditions with each spawning possibly occuring over a few days. My rosy barbs are morning spawners. I've never had cherry barbs. I suggest putting some java moss in the tank. After you've seen the cherry barbs wiggling around in there, remove the moss to a small tank. Hopefully, some eggs will come with it. Good luck with those tiny beautiful barbs!
