I have a ten gallon tropical tank with some live plants. Since I added the plants, my snail population has been booming. At the rate they are multiplying, the tank will soon be littered with snails. I like having the snails, and I know they serve their benifits, but it seems they may be begining to over populate my aquarium.
What steps can I or should I take to control the snail population?
Is there a point where the number of snails will adversly effect the aquarium?
Will they slow there multiplication rate before over crowding?
Also, I believe I found another batch of snail eggs. Does this sound right: a clear dropplet-sized glob containing several tiny white specks. This is sitting atop a leaf on one of my plants, and I recall seeing the same thing in the past on another plant.
What are your suggestions?
Well if the fish you have do not eat snails, and you get TOO many... then they can pollute the aquarium, especially when they die as they foul the water quickly. They do make products like "had-a-snail" or snail-b-gone... something like that, anyway the medication is supposed to work well. There are other methods to getting rid of snails. Personally, I've never really had to deal with them so I haven't treated a tank with snails. Perhaps someone who has had to do this could help you better. :)
