Title: Dilema Over What To Feed My Danios
Danielle James - July 18, 2005 12:04 PM (GMT)
Hi, I am currently keeping 5 Rosy Red Minnows, 4 zebra danios and 2 leopard danios in my coldwater aquarium. But it has suddenly occured to me that maybe I should be feeding tropical flakes to my danios as they are sub tropical fish. However, I am also keeping rosy reds and have been told to feed then on goldfish/coldwater flakes. Do I need to feed 2 different types of flake food or am I ok to stick with the coldwater fish flakes, which the danios do eat. I also feed brine shrimp about twice a week. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

if the danios eat the goldfish food its okay. They might prefer tropical. I will have to test that. How cold is your tank? It should be warmer for the danios. They arent subtropical. They need 70-78 degrees. They will be more active and healthier. The rosy reds can also be heated. How big is your tank?

There is not all that much difference between goldfish flakes and tropical flakes. The goldfish flakes may contain more plant matter, colorants, etc. I feed the rosy reds in my pond with Tetra Menu. When I had them in tanks inside, I used tropical flakes. But, they can eat the goldfish flakes. I would use up what you have and get the tropical flakes when you need more food. Danios are tropical. Zebra danios can live down to 60 degrees F or so but are much happier in the 70 degree F range. If your tank is inside, I expect it's probably not that cold.

i doesnt matter hat they eat. Its what they like. Try the tropical flakes and if the danios like it you should buy more. How long have you been feeding them goldfish food?

They aren't picky fish... I'm not sure they would turn down any flake food. Just go with what you have is what I'd suggest.

most fish arent really picky eaters and danios are 1 of them. i think that the tropical flakes are better for them though.
