Title: Turtles

Obviously you all know I have fish. Big fish, small fish, even fish in schools. Well, before the world of fish, I found the world of turtles. I simply adore turtles. I currently have seven, all aquatics from four different species. The largest has a carapace length of about six-in-a-half inches, and the smallest is the size of a quater, for now. Some of the fish I have discusses on this forum are Rosey Red Minnows and Comets that were left over, or enevitable, turtle food.

Anyone else here have much turtle experience?

Your name gave you away as for being a turtle person! I don't have turtles but wish I did. Alas, I have no time with the animals I already have - 16 of them plus 4 tanks and 8 ponds and all the house and yard work. I did fish our resident box turtle out of the pond today though. She came to the mulch to lay eggs and fell in. Luckily, I found her clinging to a pot in the shallows before it was too late. Last year, we had to take her to a vet as she was sick. We spent a lot of time and money on our wild Eastern box turtle, Freddie. I put up a site for her at http://www.fishpondinfo.com/box.htm
Once I did put a painted turtle in my pond but she ran away. She spawned my site http://www.fishpondinfo.com/painted.htm
I also raised a hatchling snapper before letting him go. He spawned http://www.fishpondinfo.com/hatchling.htm
So, at least the turtles help send info to others!

I don't have a Painted turtle, but the Cooter and Sliders I have are very similar by design. I would love to raise a Snapper, but I simply don't have the space for it right now. Perhaps someday...

I think turtles are great. But the part of the country I live in doesn't have many of these creatures outside of local lakes and ponds. But I can still enjoy them there.
