Do Rosey Red Minnows naturally come from flowing or stagnant waters?
"Fatheads and rosy reds come from fast flowing streams. Thus, they prefer fast flowing waters and high oxygen content..."
That was right from Robyns minnow page. You can get to the page

Someone else asked me about this recently. Apparently, some people say they come from fast water and some from slow. I think the confusion comes because rosy reds can live in both situations as they are pretty hardy. But, the original fish, the fathead minnow, was a stream fish. All streams of course have areas where the water is a bit slower, it pools up, and things are calmer. So, it's not like the minnows would naturally be fighting currents their entire lives. So, like with all fish, the tank or pond should have still areas to take a rest as well as faster moving areas. Today, most rosy reds and fatheads raised as feeders, bait fish, etc. are raised in ponds simply because it's easiest. My rosy reds and fatheads always liked/like to swim into the current but preferred calmer waters for their nests and to rest. My 153 gallon pond has a few hundred wee rosy red minnows right now! I hope a few make it. They seem to enjoy when I dump a bucket of water on their heads to top it off. So, they like a little rough water now and then!
The reason I asked is because I have a small tank I use to hold Rosey Red Minnows as feeders for my turtles. I have a filter on the tank, which causes a bit of a current through most of the water. I wanted to make sure this was not completely unorthodox for the fish. Your responses are what I expected.
Thanks!
