Today I was cleaning out some dead leaves in the pond, and i accidently scooped up a couple fish. I would probably have never noticed if I hadnt, but I saw a Rosy with like a crooked back, i couldnt get a picture, but imagine looking at the fish, starting at the head, then a little ways after the head, the back goes down, then comes back up, making a little "V" in the back... it ( i dont know if its a male or female) seems to be swimming around normal, i've never seen this before, it may just be a birth defect???
Unfortunately, after cleaning the filters, i found a couple little bitty rosys, that must have died and got sucked in, they were small enough to fit through the grating of the filter.
Bent spines are pretty common with rosy reds. I've had ones born that way due to either genetics or perhaps a problem during development. As adults, a fish may develop a kinked spine from physical injury, electrical shock, fish tuberculosis, and probably a few things I've forgotten. In a batch of rosy red fry, there is usually one or two with kinked spines.
To keep most fish out of my pumps, I cover them in filter floss and then one also has a nylon bag over that as well. Even those on my pumps though could still suck in fry as they are so small.
he could have gootin stuck too or when you scooped him out he got hurt.
