i think a 6 inch goldfish shouldnt be kept in a bowl. how big id the pond/ sounds like a swim bladder problem.

Goldfish that swim sideways are usually severely stressed or dying. Certainly, any vast change in water temperature or chemistry could stress the fish. Also, it may have gotten hurt in the transferring. Did it show any signs of damage from that or perhaps a predator? You say the goldfish is now fine inside? In that case, hopefully it was a transient problem. How many other fish do you have in that pond? How big is the pond? Do they show any problems? I wouldn't keep the stressed goldfish in a bowl. Try to find a larger non-toxic container until he/she seems well enough to go back into the pond. I would check the pH and ammonia levels in the pond to be sure they're ok. If during cleaning, you stirred up some debris, you may also have released pockets of toxic hydrogen sulfide and methane which smell and will harm fish. They will dissipate with good aeration. When cleaning a dirty pond, it's best to stir up only a small section at a time and not all at once. If that is desired/required, then the fish should be moved out of the pond during cleaning.

I hope the goldfish is okay!

There is nothing wrong with the goldfish being in a big fish bowl for a couple of days. I'm sorry I disagree with you. The goldfish does not have a swim bladder problem. It is fine and back in the pond swimming just fine. Thank you but I found the info I needed.

HI BAY! :) :) :)

I'm so happy your fish is OK. I think it's remarkable. When my fish act funny, it's usually all over for them. You must be an excellent fishkeeper. :)

keeping a 6 inch gold fish in a bowl for a day is like keeping yourself in a closet.

Thank you Margo! Glad someone over here thinks that! The fish is fine and swimming around happy. Sorry Tommy but if you would have asked me instead of putting a comment up about how I shouldn't put a 6 inch goldfish in a bowl.....ummm but that gold fish was in a very big bowl to keep it safe and from harm with air. I asked for advice and I got a smart not wanted comment. Thanks but no thanks. I saved that fish with that "Bowl" and now he is happy and ALIVE.

Please if you don't mind....deleted me off your membership list on this board...I will not be coming back here. Thank you.

Bayou - August 12, 2005 03:30 PM (GMT)
Whatever. It was what I did to save the fish. If you have a problem with that then oh well. Have a great day!

Like I said before Bye!

Tommy - August 12, 2005 04:24 PM (GMT)
sorry i was being rude to you bay.

Fish Doctor - August 12, 2005 04:48 PM (GMT)
Tommy your only 14?! I think you need to stick to getting out of school and respect people. That person was just asking a question for help. She did the right thing by doing what she did. Let the people that know what they are talking about give advice out.

Tommy - August 12, 2005 04:52 PM (GMT)
im not 14 what are you talking about? i think she was just being rude. i was just telling her that its not the best idea. so just calm down people. this thread is over, the question was answered. and yes i now see i was being rude, so end of discusion.

Tommy - August 12, 2005 04:54 PM (GMT)
i dont see you going around giving advice fish doctor. so i dont know EVERYTHING about fish. so what, we all learn something new everyday.

Fish doctor - August 12, 2005 04:57 PM (GMT)
Ok well I know you from the other board on Reef Aquarium and on your profile you have that you were born in 91 and that you are in school. Yes it is over with and her question wasn't answered on this board. From what I saw it was you that was getting rude with her. She was just asking a simple question. You had to get rude with her and tell her that she shouldn't have but I see from what she said she saved it so yes I would have to agree with her.

Tommy - August 12, 2005 04:58 PM (GMT)
who are you? from reefcentral?

Fish Doctor - August 12, 2005 04:58 PM (GMT)
It doesn't give you the right to say what you said to her. No one knows everything about fish but at least you could have been alittle more nicer to her.

Tommy - August 12, 2005 04:59 PM (GMT)
i know i should have and i admitted it already. who are you?

Fish Doctor - August 12, 2005 05:06 PM (GMT)
Admitted it already? When? No need to worry who I am. Someone told me about this site and I wanted to join but after seeing how the advice on here gets out of hand. I don't want to join. I'll stick to the other sites.

Tommy - August 12, 2005 05:08 PM (GMT)
i think you are starting to get rude with me. i think this thread should be over.

Robyn - August 12, 2005 05:17 PM (GMT)
I find it very disconcerting that the attitude of various posters in this subject specifically is very rude and unfriendly. Tommy, you are too critical of people. I'm certainly not an expert but this is my forum. I don't mind others giving advise but no one is an expert on everything. If these problems continue, I will have no choice but to make this a members only forum and delete members who are repeatedly rude. If that fails, I will have to delete the whole thing. I will not have my forum turn into a place for people to bash each other. To whomever is reading this, do not assume that I am speaking for or against you specifically as you may be wrong.

Tommy - August 12, 2005 05:19 PM (GMT)
Robyn i am SO sorry. i will now think before i post. it got out of hand. i dont want to ruin this excellent forum for you.
