well here it is cool.gif .the Great Incubation FAQ.if you have any comments or ideas about what should I add or modify, please post here wink.gif ..

Q: Aaaargh,I can't find the game/mission cd anywhere,I have tried ebay,amazon and similar,no deal.Even abandonware sites don't seem to have it.Help?
A:
Yes.

Q: I have problems installing/launching/running the game under win2000/xp OS.How can I fix this?
A:
Under winxp, rightclick on the executable file(s),select win95 (or win98/me) compatibility mode and run the installer/game.For win2000,make sure you have all service packs installed, than create a shortcut to the executable file, rightclick on the shortcut and there should be a win95 compatibility option too.Run the executable file via the shortcut.See here for additional info.

Q: Can I play Incubation/TWM in 3dfx mode on my geforce/radeon graphics card?
A:
Yes you can.Download zeckensack's glide wrapper, install it,and you will be able to use the 3dfx mode (If Incubation still refuses to start in 3dfx mode, make sure you copy the wrapper's glide2x.dll file {found in your windows folder} to your Incubation folder). You can even play in 1280*960 resolution if your pc is powerfull enough, just set the "resolution" option to "try high res" in the wrapper config utility (warning: make sure your monitor is able to handle the 1280*960 resolution first! check the wrapper readme for more info). This wrapper is in constant development, check the website for updates and bugfixes. The current version should run Incubation almost flawlesly.

Q: I can't use 3dfx mode with my voodoo3/voodoo4/voodoo5/banshee/velocity card.Whats the problem?
A:
Incubation/TWM was designed to run on voodoo1/voodoo2/voodoo rush cards, and there is no official patch that would enable support for newer 3dfx cards.Fortunately, there is a way around this, download Eng3dfx.zip archive and unpack the eng3dfx.dll file to your Incubation folder. Now you will be able to run Incubation in 3dfx mode, but your pc may behave weirdly when exiting the game.To fix this, download this special glide2x.dll and unzip it to your incubation folder. This should take care of all problems with exiting. When you open the save/load menu, background will be corrupted, this will dissapear as soon as you exit the save/load menu. The game itself will run fine.

Q: I don't have a radeon/geforce/3dfx card.Can I play in 3dfx mode?
A:
If your card is capable of directx7 direct 3d acceleration, you can use dgVoodoo 1.40+ glide wrapper, download the archive and unpack dgVoodooSetup.exe and glide2x.dll to your Incubation folder (you dont need the rest of the files).Run the setup utility, make sure you set bit and texture depth to 16bit,save changes, and run Incubation in 3dfx mode. The emulation should be almost perfect.

Q: The wrappers won't work, they are unstable, they cause slowdowns and errors.Any other way how can I play in 3dfx mode?
A:
You can get an add-on voodoo card (voodoo1 or voodoo2,but preferably voodoo2).There is a good chance that one of your friends will have an old add-on voodoo card that he wont use anymore, just borrow it if you can.If not,you can buy one, they are very cheap (around 5-10$) and available almost anywhere.Try to find a local seller,if that wont work you can use ebay.Install the voodoo card in your pc,connect it to your primary graphics card with the pass-through cable (the seller should give you one if you are buying the card),plug the monitor in the voodoo2 card, install the latest drivers (available for any OS,including WinXP,check here ) and you are ready to play Incubation in 3dfx mode.Note that Voodoo2 cards don't run too well (or at all) on new pc's (Pentium4 or older should be fine). You can find additional info about Voodoo2 cards here.

Q: I can't update my Incubation/TWM,when I try to run the patch it gives me the "old file not found..etc." error.I'm using the right update, why is it still not working?
A:
This is caused by using a backup copy of the game that was downloaded from the internet. You wont be able to use the official patch unless you have the original CD. If you are using a backup copy of the game, you can update the game to version 1.52e using this special patch and loader (see the readme).

Q: I have a problem with the Wilderness Missions,in the mission where I'm supposed to capture a Bea-ther with an advanced laser.A marine named Ramone is supposed to parachute down and do this, but when the mission starts,he wont even appear and the mission will end in an instant failure. Is this a bug or what?
A:
This is,again, caused by using a backup copy of the game that was downloaded from the internet (but it may happen on originals as well). You can fix it by doing following: download this archive, unzip it to the folder named "Missions" in your Incubation folder and overwrite the old file.Run the game, start the problematic mission, and Ramone will be there.

Q: Incubation/TWM won't start,it says copy protection.I have installed the game without problems, the cd is in the drive, why is it not running?
A:
Make sure your Incubation/TWM CD is in your primary CD-Rom drive (for example,if you have drives D: and E: ,the CD must be in the D: drive),if this won't help, you can try to use a no-cd patch, you can get it here.

Q: I don't have any sound in cutscenes,and I don't hear the music too.Why?
A:
This can be caused by using a ripped version of the game, where soundtrack and cutscene sounds have been removed to cut down the size of the game.If you are running from a (original) cd,make sure you have the internal audio cable hooked up correctly. You can try to disable DMA for your CD-Rom (in the device manager) too.

Q: Incubation runs well, but after I finish the mission with the first Gore'Ther,I'm not able to move on,the mission reloads or kicks me to the main menu. Why is this happening?
A:
Incubation sometimes takes a single mouse click as two.It looks like this problem occurs when the pc is too fast. Incubation interpretes one mouse click as two, that means you click "continue" and "try again" at the same time.Use keyboard cursor keys and Enter to choose the"continue" button.

all for now.. rolleyes.gif

..got some good news smile.gif .the latest version of dgvoodoo runs incubation in 3dfx mode on a non geforce/radeon graphics card almost perfectly.this means we can finaly play incubation in 3dfx mode on ANY 3d graphics card, including the almost hopeless intel integrated graphics chips tongue.gif (the very ones I have here at my new work office).I have modified the FAQ and included the new info.

Gregg,I suggest you remove the evoodoo3.2 wrapper from the data archives completely.that thing never worked properly, and now when dgvoodoo finally works, there is no use for it anymore..

uploaded a fix for TWM,it fixes the bug in "The Capture" level (Ramone is gone and the mission ends in an instant failure).it was possible to fix it by downloading the complete TWM addon from incubations data archives and by overwriting the whole "missions" folder, but this was kinda impractical,so I have located the one and only file that is critical and uploaded it as a separate download (see the Ramone question in the FAQ,its already updated).the file has only few kilobytes wink.gif

Gregg,it would be great if you could host the file in the "patchs" section,my site is quite unreliable rolleyes.gif .thanks..

..and the FAQ has been viewed more than 1500 times already,ay! laugh.gif

I had the very same problem here in Wilderness 1.50. After I updated to Wilderness 1.52 using your "Wilderness.exe" patch, the problem never occured again. I think its the solution of the problem, you should mention it in the FAQ.
Sorry, for my bad english smile.gif

Hello there!

Does someone know how to force the 3dfx mode?
What I got is the localized russian version of I:TIRO and it forces DirectX mode with "-directx" launch parameter by default. Is there "-3dfx" or "-glide" parameter or something?

Thanks a lot for this site, guys, it's very helpful. wink.gif

heya

nice to see such a well made incubation faq happy.gif
however, after i decidet to search for my old copy of incubation to play it again after all these years a annoying problem occured
the mouse input kinda lags out... in mouse settings 1 and 2 its totally unplayable because i have to wait 10+ seconds to see what i am pointing at
at mouse setting 3 (it changes the mouse into the windows standart, insteand of the hand model) the mouse moves smoothly - but yet again it takes some time until my click is registered

is there something i can do about it?

im using Win XP prof with SP2 on a AMD athlon 64 3500+ processor with 1gig RAM and a ATI radeon x700 SE

as for forcing the 3dfx mode,I'm not avare of such an option.

as for laggy mouse, make sure to set the game executable to win9x compatibility,that should fix it.
