Title: Patsy's Gardening Journal

Shayla's Mom - April 11, 2004 07:11 AM (GMT)
Yeah it's Spring and it's time for some nice garden veggies and pretty flowers. This year, I had ventured out and bought more flower bulbs, and had recieved some in an exchange. I have various types of gladiolas and around four or five other bulbs. I was very excited to see the nice leaves from the gladiolas and think that they will bloom by the ending of next month.
As for my flower and vegetable seeds...I had planted a bunch of them. Maybe around 18 packets already.
I am hoping that we have alot of flowers around that Shayla will be able to pick, and also ones that I can cut and put inside of the house.
Tomorrow is Easter, so I will take a break from the yard and garden, but will continue to tend to it the following day.

Shayla's Mom - April 12, 2004 01:49 AM (GMT)
Happy Easter to all. Since it's Easter, I haven't been able to do anything in my garden. My aunty, mom, Shayla, our family friend and I did take a stroll through the gardens, and my aunty found a type of mushroom called miminaba. It is a type of mushroom that grows in areas where there is no chemicals and such used. She hasn't seen it since she was growing up. So, that's something different that was in our garden. Hopefully I will be able to do some gardening tomorrow.

Shayla's Mom - April 15, 2004 09:09 PM (GMT)
I got up early so that I could do some things in the garden. I had taken out the lemon basil plants and pulled some weeds and planted some eggplant seedlings there. I had also replanted the Thai dragon chili. I planted the rest of the eggplant seedlings in the other garden and hopefully will be able to do more things today since it's nice and sunny.

I had gotten a nice deep red begonia that I planted in the terra cotta pot for the kitchen window and it's doing very good.

Shayla's Mom - April 20, 2004 09:39 PM (GMT)
I had just finished putting together three flower hanging baskets, two pots of strawberry plants, Shayla and I planted mixed bell pepper seeds, cucumber seeds, and eggplant seeds. I also planted my carnation seedlings in the ground, and planted my mixed green seedlings into a big planter. I had tried growing mixed greens around the time that Shayla was born and it was a nice relaxing thing to do. I was able to have some "my time" with tending the seedlings, and when I had harvested the greens. People had really enjoyed recieveing a bag of fresh organic green veggies for their evening salad. I will plant more of the mixed green seeds this afternoon.

Shayla's Mom - April 23, 2004 08:14 PM (GMT)
I had recieved a bunch of seeds yesterday, so I planted the wildflowers and also had done some yard work by the rose bushes. It's been raining alot these days and the weeds are growing like crazy. I hope to put together more lemon basil plants and put the signs on the pots since we are donating them to our church's bazaar.

I don't think i have it in me as much as you do Patsy. :( I have seeds growing but the garden is full of weeds and i can't get into it for some reason.

Shayla's Mom - May 18, 2004 01:06 AM (GMT)
Tracey, just keep trying and trying. Maybe you should try hanging baskets and planter boxes.
When I came home yesterday, I was amazed to see how nice our mint was growing, and my gladiolas bulbs that I had planted...they are so nice. It looks like the ones that you see sold in the florists, with no bug holes or anything.
I had purchased more seeds and bulbs, so will be busy working in the garden for a while.

Shayla's Mom - May 28, 2004 06:24 PM (GMT)
Everything seems to be growing nicely. I had put the sticks in for the morning glory and I have to put sticks up for the peas. As for my flowers, my gladdiolas is growing nicely, except for the fact that it rains almost everyday, so the flower part of the plant, gets bent or it doesn't usually stay straight. I was suprised to see the different color pink and white mixture one, and now we have yellow gladdiolas. Yesterday, I had planted sunflowers, jalepenos, lettuce, and grape tomato seeds. This morning, I had gotten an early start, and planted ten bags of flower bulbs that I had picked up during my trip. I can't wait to see them.
Hope everyone is enjoying their garden and you are seeing some progress with your plants, flowers, veggies.

Shayla's Mom - June 3, 2004 07:37 PM (GMT)
I had planted 28 bulbs of gladdiolas yesterday of assorted colors, so hopefully I wil have some new colors from those. I know have yellow and a pinkish white color. I will plant some dahalias and other bulbs this afternoon.
I had seen some of my sunflower seeds sprout, so hopefully that will be full grown by the peak of summer for everyone to enjoy.
Did anyone ever put together a strawberry hanging basket kit? I had recieved one so will try to put it together this week.

Shayla's Mom - June 10, 2004 10:52 PM (GMT)
Shayla and I had gone into our garden and had planted three different kinds of seeds-Northern Sea Oats, Gloriosa Daisy, and Painted Daisies. This was my first time seeing these type of flowers and ornamental grass and I hope they grow nicely.

Shayla's Mom - June 12, 2004 05:56 PM (GMT)
It was another day of flower planting for Shayla and myself. This time, we planted, shasta daisies, bachelor buttons, gaillardia, and z-scape poppy.

Shayla's Mom - June 14, 2004 06:33 PM (GMT)
I bought two Lavender Munster plants yesterday, so just planted them this morning. I was trying to find a picture so all of you could see how it would look like when the flowers start to bloom, but with no luck, so I guess I will have to just take a picture of it for you when my plants start to bloom, hopefully by the ending of this year. During my trip to Las Vegas, I had seen a couple nice lavender plants near my BIL's house, and loved it so just had to get some of my own. I had gotten the seeds also, so will try to plant them.
Does anyone else still garden instead of Jess and I?
Does anyone look at the garden forum?

Shayla's Mom - June 25, 2004 12:48 AM (GMT)
I had made my topiary today and I'm not sure if that is exactly how to make it, but since no one knew how to make it, I am just testing it out and we'll see how it grows.
No help from Kevin today either with planting my seedlings. His excuse was that it was raining, but they are doing something with the warehouse and he had gone with Darin and my dad to get lumber  how many times do I need to ask for help?
I bet he will forget the bean sprouts for the Pad Thai tonight also   .
I guess Shayla and I will work on the garden after her nap.

Shayla's Mom - July 1, 2004 01:18 AM (GMT)
There are lots of weeds in the yard and garden because of all the rain, but today is the first day that it hasn't rained yet in the afternoon, so I was able to weed the front garden, and cut a bunch of mint to throw away so the new ones can spread.

Shayla's Mom - July 20, 2004 08:15 AM (GMT)
My cosmos flowers are doing good and so are my dallihas. Just wanting to see what type of gladdiolas will bloom from the ones that I planted since they were a mixed variety and will try to replant the bulbs that I dug out since they are already dried.
I want to get a few more plants to plant in the garden since we are clearing things out.

Shayla's Mom - July 27, 2004 04:27 AM (GMT)
I had pulled weeds today and yesterday and had gotten a blister yesterday from the gardening sheers. Today, I had picked a bunch of dahallias for the house and Shayla and I had planted some veggie seeds. We planted Jalepeno peppers, eggplant, and cucumbers. We will plant more seeds tomorrow...
Also my dad had made more space for the garden by the house, so we will see what we can find to plant there.

Shayla's Mom - July 28, 2004 04:30 AM (GMT)
I had planted some tomatoes and eggplant today when I was told to go and buy a bag of cement, so I had drove the truck to the store where they didnt' have any so I wasn't able to do as much as I wanted to accomplish, but I did get to plant a package of sunflower seeds and also bought two cilantro plants which I will plant tomorrow.

Shayla's Mom - August 3, 2004 09:11 AM (GMT)
I had planted some pansy seeds and done some gardening. I had picked my first cucumber that I have ever grown and it tasted very good. I'm so proud of myself for that cause usually there would be one or more bee stings, and it didn't have any...I didn't even protect it from the bees.
Hopefully I will be able to get more things planted. Shayla and I have been planting a few things and my sunflowers are growing nicely-minus the big one that had gotten down when it rained hard.

~Sarah~ - August 4, 2004 10:12 AM (GMT)
It sounds like everything is coming along nicely in your garden i still havent seen any pictures though :(

Shayla's Mom - August 4, 2004 07:14 PM (GMT)
Pictures, not sure when that will happen. I see my garden all the time so I don't take them, and it's not just one small area, we have two different gardens that I work on along with the side of the house where I have my herbs and such.

~Sarah~ - August 4, 2004 07:16 PM (GMT)
when you get chance it would be lovely to see some :ok:

Shayla's Mom - August 7, 2004 03:52 AM (GMT)
My gladiolas has just started to bloom, I can see four yellow ones and one really neat color-will update on the color tomorrow as I see more of the blossom bloom.

Shayla's Mom - August 9, 2004 08:06 AM (GMT)
We had gotten alot done yesterday. Everyone helped to clean up the weeds, cutting of plants...Today, I had planted some flowers, transplanted the cucumber seelings, planted more eggplant seeds, and pulled some weeds. Things seem to be going very good.

~Sarah~ - August 9, 2004 09:18 AM (GMT)
  it sounds like you have a very productive garden

Shayla's Mom - August 14, 2004 05:28 AM (GMT)
I had picked my third cucumber yesterday from my garden, and today I had picked four more gladdiolas. This time, I had a bright red one that I am very pleased to see.
I was able to plant some sweet basil seeds in the pots that had the dead cucumber seedlings. Only half of the cucumber plants had made it after I had transplanted them, and we'll see how the rest of them do.
Shayla helped me to plant several flower plants into pots and she had fun.

~Sarah~ - August 14, 2004 10:02 AM (GMT)
  well done shayla she obviously has her mums talent in the garden :ok:

Shayla's Mom - August 14, 2004 07:20 PM (GMT)
Shayla loves to be outside and knows what a shovel is. She uses her two water cans to water the plants and seedlings, helps to pull weeds...

Shayla's Mom - August 23, 2004 08:58 AM (GMT)
My new dahalias have bloomed, and there are three sturdy ones that are very nice in color. They are an orange like color which I have never seen before. I even picked one yesterday to put in the bathroom.
The eggplants that I had planted, should be ready to eat by next week, and as for the seedlings that I had planted, they should be able to go into the ground next week also.

CrazyFairy - August 24, 2004 01:14 AM (GMT)
Wow Patsy...sounds like you have a beautiful garden :ok:

Shayla's Mom - August 26, 2004 08:07 PM (GMT)
We have a large area to work with, so I have alot of planting areas and that means that I have alot of areas to take care of. Weeds, weeds, weeds-they never stop.
I had done some weeding this morning and will hopefully get more done today. I am also wanting to fill the other side of the garden up with more dirt so that I can transplant the astromeriam plants.

Shayla's Mom - August 30, 2004 11:02 PM (GMT)
Shayla and I had gotten into the garden today. I was able to pull some weeds, we plant some chili plants, and watered them. Later we went to the other garden and Shayla picked cherry tomatoes while I had weeded a bit by the cucumber plant. I'm glad we came into the house when we did since it is now pouring rain.
Oh, and we planted more tomato seeds.

Shayla's Mom - September 3, 2004 12:26 AM (GMT)
I had gotten alot of weeding done yesterday and today. Today, my dad had built me a work area so that I can put my seedlings on there, my gardening tools, .... we had painted it light blue, and I am hoping to decorate it. I was thinking with maybe some ivy. I will have to go to the store and see what they have avaliable and what I am able to do. I am so excited.

Shayla's Mom - September 4, 2004 06:31 AM (GMT)
I had started on my first day of stenciling my work area. It takes me around ten minutes to do just one stencil. I am trying to make it colorful and cute looking. I am hoping to later put up a bigger board so that I can put my tools and such on top. Another project which will happen to it next week after I am done with all the stenciling, is to put wire onto the racks so that I can just place the potted plants and such on.

Shayla's Mom - September 22, 2004 02:14 AM (GMT)
I had finally gotten into my garden after being home for three days and there is alot of weeds to tend to. I had planted 20 eggplant seedlings and parsley yesterday but did that in the rain, so couldn't do much more. Today is really hot so just waiting for the sun to go down and will do more. My little mini mums are starting to bloom, so I picked a bunch for the house.

Shayla's Mom - October 3, 2004 06:32 PM (GMT)
Because of the heavy rainfall yesterday, it had knocked down my dahalia plant, so I am going to try and get that up, and also plant some sunflower seeds with Shayla. I don't have to worry about the winter weather much since we live in a tropical area, so that is great.

Shayla's Mom - November 16, 2004 06:05 AM (GMT)
In my garden now, I have cucumbers, tomatoes, chives... this is the first time that I am growing this variety of tomatoes and it is looking good, but if anyone has any suggestions on keeping the bees away, then I'm open to listening to their suggestions.

Shayla's Mom - November 29, 2004 07:39 AM (GMT)
My tomatoes are growing, but I'm wondering when they will turn red.
I had planted a bunch of pea plants in the garden, and Shayla and I had planted some tomato and raddish seeds.

Shayla's Mom - December 1, 2004 07:16 PM (GMT)
I bought some green pepper seeds, so I will be planting those with Shayla, and I had also gotten three little mum plants-a yellow, white, and lavender like ones. I am going to plant them where I have my other mums now, but will put in new dirt and a fertizliler mixture to help the flowers grow nicer.
