Im new and am about to buy a new series, what would you recommend.

I am leaning more towards Detective Conan, but for the price I also want Ranma 1/2.

I would also like Lupin the Third. sorry I forgot to put it in my poll.

Well, with Naruto and One Piece you'll have to get those as imports. Sometimes that can be hard in certain areas. If you do buy any of those series, Ed says that you need to check your dvd player and make sure that your player can play the region of the dvd. It's also possible that the dvds are region free, but always check because some places won't let you return. You could always wait until the Fox Box airs One Piece this fall

Anyways, Ed would go for Ranma 1/2. It's pricey, but that's one Ed's list of things to get eventually. ^_^

Inuyasha out of that list, but yu yu hakusho no dought.

Kiara - June 24, 2004 10:15 PM (GMT)
out of the ones i have to choose. I would go with Fushgi Yuugi. it's a sad anime, but it's a great anime! I love it!

Buster-Kun - June 26, 2004 01:21 AM (GMT)
Just as long as you dont buy Inuyasha. I don't want to offend all the INU fans out there but the series is really long and it'll be pricy. And if you do be sure and buy it subbed. SO MUCH BETTER. And not edited.

But I'd vote for Naruto. Like its been said you may have to import it but its deffinatly worth it. That is as long as your looking for a action comedy. But if you want a more scarry anime Id have to suggest Hellsing. Granted its not on the list but its a personal fav.

If you want a straight out comedy Ranma would be a good choice but its kinna old and if you dont like dated drawing styles then avoid it.

And like Kiara said if you want sad get Fushigi Yuugi.

As far as action/war/oldtime/Fantasy (long description) You gotta go with berserk its also not on the list but it kicks MAJOR ASS. You gotta trust me on this.

And something a little more susspensful and keeps you guessing till the very end I suggest LAIN.

But if your only options are off that list go with Naruto!!!!

Yes in eng. Inuyasha prices are high, but it jap they are not at all. Naruto is also a pretty long series as well. Berserk ummm well i donno i never seen it but it looked weird. Hellsing isn't scary at all, weird? yes but not scary, lots of blood and action, and short, u can buy like the whole series for 50 bucks. The sad anime i been looking to buy a dvd but can't right now, so maybe u like it. But if u willing to buy a anime in jap. than go wit inuyasha if u got about 125 bucks u can get up to ep 112, how do i know? i have the whole thing up to their for 125, and two of the movies for a extra 25 dollers.

Hellsing isnt the scariest by any stretch of the imagination but alone in the dark on saturday night. More like creepy than scarry.

Out of the list you mentioned plus the one after I say lupin, these are my reasons

Lupin, was essentialy the begining of modern anime. It took it to where it is today and allowed for more show variat. It is obviously reconized as one of the greatest series ever, and the new dub brings life to an old anime for a whole new generation.

Naruto th anime is not on the same level as the manga and the show just keeps going taking a show that had promise and turning into another dbz

Inuyasha is the same, if you want buy the first 50 episodes after that I wouldnt recomend it as they are all pretty much the same. After apromitly episode 50 you will be able to see everything that is going to happen before it does. And yes the show does have a horrid dub and uncut with subs is much better however some people just are not into that whole thing.

Detective conan, while if you are into that sort of thing wouldnt lupin be the better choice anyway. the show strikes me as sub par at best, lack of music and solid animation leaves me feeling blah and kind of sad that it is as popular as it is. The fact that the story is, kind of out of place, I mean for such a realitic anime there are some far fetched things. it just doesnt feel all that good to me, but hey your choice.

Ranma 1/2 is funny some parts are even hilarious however it is a bit pricy (to say the last) and if you do minnd the dated animation I would say Lupin is the better choice. From the shows you have listed you are not an animation freak (someone who only cares about the visuals of a show, if you were I would recomend last exile or akira) because of this you wont mind out dated styles (ie lupin, and ranma) your best bet ould be to go with a sure winner and a classic,

Also alot of the choices there are fighting anime it has been said but the best fighting anime ever created (in many peoples oppinions as well as mine) is yu yu hakusho. This show has alot to it and one should see a subbed version and dubbed version before making a desicion what you like better. I prefer the origanal japanese voice acotrs by a little, acytually the only reason I like it more is kuwabaras voice. The dubs have been labaled as bad because they are not accurate HOWEVER the same thing that was done with lupin the 3rd was done with yu yu hakusho, the dub was made more modern it incoprarates more modern jokes for a new auidince. Yu Yu origanaly made in 1992 is funny however the dub throws in more one liners and makes more updated jokes, the same goes for lupin.

My choice for the ones you picked go with Lupin you cant lose, granted the animation is oldschool and the show may seem out dated, however if you want some comedy a little bit of ction and the grandfather of modern anime Lupin is what you want

If you want a fighting anime pick up some yu yu hakusho it has a little oputdated animation but no anime in the same genre can match its story music, or fight scenes.
