I've seen many animes, and know of the existence of many more, but I too have never heard of this one. Whats it about fullmetalpanic and who is it by?

It is a moderatly popular show about a young girl named Sora who wishes to join a stage act (combanation of musical/acrobatics and whatnot) something I would avoid but fans of this stuff may find it interesting.
it has 26 episodes with a 25 episode OVA and its by Gonzo (so some may check it out just because of that)

Her successful performance results in an invitation for her to join the circus.
