Dark nights loom over the London sky, as ghoul’s wander and Vampires pray on the helpless masses. The amount of vampires that are attacking humans has grown wildly out of control, and Hellsing the corporation set to stop them and protect the queen, is slowly losing its grip on the situation. They are forced to use their most powerful weapon, a true master of the undead arts, a vampire named Alucard.

Hellsing is one of the shows that many people hear about but never actually see. For a long time it was an underground classic, however as time went on it was forced to the surface, and since that time it has become one of the most popular anime of all time.

The show uses a beautiful blend of animation, and music set the mood for the show, the two used together make a truly dark and disturbing world. It creates an atmosphere that seems to be perfect for the show, it blends together this darkness with the action of the series, and this effect makes you almost slip into the world when watching the show, and creates a great experience.

The animation although beautiful is a bit awkward, not bad just different, unlike any other show out there, it is dark, with a lot of style. It seems that the art is very close to that of the manga, which is very cool. I guess there may be a few persons who do not like the artistic style of the show, however I thought it was not only brilliant, but near perfect.

The music is some of the best around. I do not think there is on song in the show that I truly did not like, and that is a rarity in most shows. he opening song (the world without logos ) is one of the coolest smoothest opening songs ever, and the scenery that goes along side it makes it better. The only thing is do not try and understand the lyrics, because frankly they make no sense.

The ending is also very good, it is “shine” a song by...Mr. Big? A band that does rock ballads, did the ending to Hellsing...so that is why the show is so scary. Honestly I do not know how it is pulled off, but somehow it gets done.

The Story of the show, is well rushed. I am very sorry to say it but the show was just rushed. The story although intriguing isn't as stretched out as I am sure everyone wanted. Although it retains its greatness if this show had gotten 26 episodes then there is a chance I would be telling you about the greatest show ever when I speak of Hellsing.

The plot in the show is a twist on an old tale. There are vampires and there ghouls and there are bats, but it is not Dracula and there aint no pansy vampire hunter that comes and saves the day. No this is more like the smash mouth straightforward shoot until it stops moving kind of show. A very good twist on a vampiric tale.

The show is both bloody, yet stylish at the same time. Although there is a lot of blood (and I mean a lot) it is not used gratuitously, The show just doesn't show blood dripping for the sake of blood dripping, instead it takes this gore and violence and makes it part of the tale, a very good concept that some shows could learn something from (especially old ninja anime)

Now I will touch on the shows strong point, and that has to be the action, the action in this show more then makes up for the rushed story (which is still good I might add) The show takes this idea from the manga, which had 20 minute action sequences. From the opening you can tell the show will be filled with action, the body count is high, the amount of shells that hit the floor is incredible and the guns used are magnificent. The show truly uses these action scenes unlike any other show, they are fast paced and to the point. Alucard makes a perfect main character for this, his pure amount of style and charisma are perfect for a show like this, and he truly makes this great anime what it is.

Overall - 90%

Character Development - 70% - There are great characters and their stories are told, however not to the extent I wanted. There were many stories left untold and many characters whose stories were never revealed. That is the downfall of a short series.

Animation - 99% - Brilliant has to be the only word that can describe the animation, original with style is the best way I can put it.

Story - 80% - I took off 15 points for the rushed plot, I only took off 15 because the story is still told, and it is still done well. I just wished more things were wrapped up, there were many unanswered questions and to many things that just did not get told. I am sure if the show had 26 episodes it would have told the story much more brilliantly (On a side note this is one of the few times anyone will ever here me complain about there not being enough episodes, I am usually an advocate of making a show short 13-26 episodes however I truly feel that another season is needed for this show)

Wacthability - 95% - Although I would recommend picking it up from the beginning. The show could easily be watched in a day (I did it) The show just hooks you and makes you want more, the cliff hanging episodes are great, and the animation is easy on the eyes.

Translation and Dubbing - 85% - I love this shows dubbing, with one exception, and that is British accents, it takes place in London so everyone has them (and some are very good) however it gets annoying after a while. There are two people who were done extremely well, Alucard, was done beautifully and the heavy accent of Paladin Alexander, those two voices were great. The translations are fairly good, nothing that would rive anyone insane. This show can be seen either way subbed or dubbed without losing anything in the story.

Music - 95% - I enjoyed the music a lot. It had everything it needed, a catchy opening song, dark themes that played while the show was on, and an ending by Mr. Big, you cannot top that. The music was done well and truly set the mood for the animation, it just came together and helped make the show what it was.
