Title: Digital Art
Description: Photoshop & After Effects

4saken - December 31, 2004 05:01 AM (GMT)
Its not fan art of course, none of it is hand drawn by me. But it does take time and an idea to work off of, so its art.

Here are some signatures I have procured over quite a while, I dont have many still hosted but this is what I can still find. (some may take a while to load on 56k! they are all 5+ second animations, intended for 90% Broadband users forums) Made alot of Naruto theme ones based on Sasuke, Itachi, Ino and Sakura but I dont have them hosted atm.

Evangelion 2
Guillotine from scratch

Mainly I use Adobe After Effects, with a bit of help from Photoshop. After Effects is pretty much as good as it gets for 2d (can simulate 3d) animation. Such as commercials. After Effects with the right amount of understanding is used for many commercials you see. Its true purpose is to create effects on a project that has already been through Adobe Premier or other video editing programs such as Director. I use a digital video camera for footage then it goes to Premier and finally to After Effects for some pretty interesting creations.
Also I use a bit of 3d Studio Max, Maya and Poser for perspective 3d animation/design. But those never turn out as signatures.

Both the eva ones are nice the other is so/so

Teru-chan - December 31, 2004 11:49 AM (GMT)
i rekon the second eva one is better than the first. the Guillotine one is ok.

thanks. about that guillotine one, I have known that to be disliked by alot who saw it.. Because it contains no images or anything I didnt make, and just has alot of pretty roughly made objects. someone said "whats up with the gravity, blade falls one way, blood drips the other" when i came up with the idea for it i just had to go through with it tho.
That first Eva one was alot harder to make then it looks. It contains 2 animated mask with 300-800 points to form the masked area, then each point moves 22 times per second for about 3-4 seconds. Because that clip is taken straight out of an episode and who would want the original background there...
The 2nd Eva one was from when I was hooked on the anime. And it contains a subliminal meaning, as does my current ava.
(Note: =ONI= is our clan's tag on the FPS Tribes: Aerial Assault)

Side bar used to extent short sigs
Sasuke
Sig I made for someone, demonstrating the perspective shatter effect
Very very old, still Sig
In the middle of ^that one is Johnny from the very good graphic novel, Johnny The Homicidal Maniac. Also left is from Fushigi Yuugi(and the sign on his forehead is the Kanji for "ONI") and right is from Ninja Scroll

I'll upload some others if anyone would want to see them.

This new signature I just made was expecially fun to make. The way I made it was. First I started out in PS to design the front of the box, door, left and right spikes seperatly. and masked the background and cropped small pic in box. Then (closing down PS) imported all files and and 3 of each side of spike into After Effects. set box in proper spot in top layer and background on bottomr layer. set each middle spike to 50% scale. set the left spikes how I like them, noted the pixel height to each and applyed it to the right spikes for a correct look all on the back layer infront of bkg. set gate in place behind box but infront of all others. put animated mask on the top of gate to make it dissapear when moving up. set position properties over time on gate and all spikes and copyed properties so they move at the same time. put adjustment layer infront of the background layer with a +brightness effect with an animated mask designating the eye on the bkg and set changing opacity properties to change, making it flash slightly. put adjustment layer (with -birhgtness/contrast) over spikes with mask to only effect the spikes. set inside pic between spikes and gate layers with animated mask. put text layer between small pic and gate layers. put brightness/contrast changing effects on all pics and box. then all that was left was to find a gray that will render into a .gif file and look right. so it was just a matter of changing brightness effects on each, rendering, seeing if its good, if not rinse and repeat. I used a forced transparency on hard edges to come out with the transparent background and only 8 frames per sec to keep the file small. Im thinking of adding a row of 3-5, smaller spikes on the bottom of box sometime.
And using a similar process you can make alot of different animated objects.

I guess it takes an idea that you want to see done enough to give the final project value.
