Description: Pathetic

They are bringing it back to Adult Swim.. which is seriously pissing me off, that show should have stayed gone. It's a complete rip off of Batman + Gundam, I hope it gets cancelled again.

Yeah, okay its pretty bad, I think pretty much everyone would agree with that. HOWEVER this show was an anime pioneer and helped introduce people outside of Japan to anime, so you have to give it some respect at least. As far as the comment that its like Gundam, if anything Gundam is like The Big O because Big O came first. Also sometimes people rip on it for having "bad" animation. By today's standards it does look like something outta the stone age, but then again its not really fair to judge an old anime by today's standards because there are basic things we can do today in animation that would have seemed impossible in the days back when this show was made.
As far as it being on Adult Swim, thats different. Respect for this show aside, there are a lot more interesting, well done and much more popular to a general audience anime series out there that they could be airing. I think personally Escaflowne would be perfect for the line up and would jib well with other Adult Swim anime shows like Bebop and Trigun.
So although The Big O is a bit like that crazy old relative at family functions who nobody really likes, and everyone avoids talking to, you have to give it some respect for what its impact on anime overall has been and the legacy it, and other shows, helped create that directl relates to anime today.

Actually The Big O the anime first aired in Japan in 1999-2000 (itr was a 13 episode series but became a 26 episode series when it got good ratings)
Where as the first Gundam series (entitiles simply Gundam) first aired in 1979 (it was a 43 episode series)
Tha manga I am not sure about the date, but I am fairly sure that it is not old, The Big O, is less of a rip off story in my mind as it is a craptastic one, something that made an attempt to be thought provoking and revolutionary and maybe that just was not conveyed in the dub (or the show in general)
My personal oppinions on the show is it is less then average the animation is ok for a short period of time but after a while it does get old and bland (I dont mind animation that differs from the normal like Hellsings, but Big O did not have that flare)
The fact that the fight scenes seem sub par and the story is overly convoluted, not particularly my style.

Big O is a Great anime. with one of the Greatest Dubs. The toonami dub doesn't count anymore, because now big O is uncut. Is a Great anime, that Good a lot of Good ratings, Making it the first anime to be Co-produced by Americans because of the Huge ratings in A.S
Because is Psychological, That's why many people don't like it. It's drama that you need to see from the very beginning without missing an episode.

i never heard of BIG O. what's it about?

It's an okay Anime series - Something to watch when bored. Main reason I watch it is for the voice actor, Steven Blum, who did the voice for Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop.

NO, NO!,NO!no~! Okay, I feel dumb.
When I did my OWN research on Big O I found out that what you said NGC (as usual) was correct. Big O is NOT old, it came out in the early 2000s. It flopped in Japan BIG TIME. but for some unexplainable reason, did well on Adult Swim, so it was picked up there and more eps were made. I got my faulty info from my friend Stu, who really likes that show (yeah, I don't know why either) and he told me it was old! So I guess everything I said was wrong, and there is after all no reason to like this anime, especially since it is common knowledge that it was created in a large part to be merchandise friendly, in other words it was created the way it was so toys could easily be made based on its characters. BOO-URNS!!

Big O came out in the year 2000, Ratings failed.
Toonami brought it heavily edited, and it failed.
Then AS brought it back, got good ratings Uncut
Then CN Co-produced a Second season
