Title: Over rated and Under Rated

Next Gen Cowboy - May 11, 2005 08:50 PM (GMT)
Well I wanna know what people think are some shows that over rated and some shows that are under rated, saying why would also be nice, I understand this is primed for an argument so please understand these are oppinions argue the oppinions if you want, but please only argue about the topic dont fight with people.

My Over rated shows

Naruto - I think this show gets to much credit, it seems like nothing more then a normal fighting show that played itself out but somehow it has become something larger then life...like DBZ, makes me sad

Inuyasha - another show that runs on way to long, it makes me sad, I mean after episode 50 it basicly continues itself, and I really am not a fan.

Rouroni Kenshin - After episode 50 it pretty much has no story it is meaningless fights that culminates to nothing.

Under rated shows

Last Exile - Possibly one of the greatest shows ever made, and over looked by so many. This show rivals bebop in animation and music and not many shows can say that.

Gungrave - this show is just as action packed as hellsing except it has a story that is amazing and some beautiful animation got little credit but it is a really good show.

NGC!!!!!!

Naruto, come on, join the Naruto Love Team, its got a nice story, plus the fights are above average, and with all the other main stream shows out now, Naruto blows them all away.

Rurouni Kenshin: I loved, but it did get a little boring after a while.

Over rated:
- Inu Yasha: Yeah alright I haven't seen a bunch of episodes, but when I do see it on tv and try and get into it I can't, its just too boring and as NGC said VERY repetitive.
- Dragon Ball Z: Yeah you all know I hate this show for its sub par animation, music and predictable and repetitve story line.
- Trigun: Okay I really had to think before I put this one on the list, because in some ways its very good, and I am aware its a much beloved series, and no I haven't seen the whole thing, but I have seen quite a bit and although its good I don't think its great. I just found for me personally it was kinda hard to get into the story and the characters weren't always relatable or interesting.
- Steamboy: Okay, I haven't heard anything about this, so technically I don't know if people think its good and is therefore overrated, but I personally couldn't wait to see this movie, its was the first movie release from Katsuhiro Otomo the guy who did Akira. I went alone to see it which wasn't that fun, and braved the biggest blizzard of the winter to get there and had to spend money on the ticket and parking because the only theatre playing it was downtown and theres no free parking in the city. Its turned out to be one of the worst anime's I've ever seen. The animation was beautiful, but it was there that the good aspects of this trainwreck ended.

Under rated:
-The Iria movies: Yeah they're kinda old by now but I think they totally kick ass and although aknowledged in anime circles, they are usually thought of as cult films, rather than mainstream successes. These movies are some of the first anime I ever saw, and I think they still hold up today as great movies and I love Iria's character.
- Utena: Although somewhat well known, especially because the director is the same guy that did Sailor Moon, but I still don't think that many people really have taken the time and trouble to watch the whole story and really appreciate it. The first several episodes are okay, a bit repetitive, and I think that turns people off, but about mid way through it hits its stride and turns into one hell of a series.
- X (the series not the movie): yes this has garnered accalaim and interest, but I think this is one of the best series of all time and I would be willing to argue that it is the best animated series ever. Its by CLAMP, who are known for their beautiful visiual stylings in movies like Vampite Hunter D Bloodlust, but to have a full tv series animated in the same beautiful, lush manner is rare because it is very labor intensive and expensive so usually you only see this quality animation in big anime movies.

Theres alot I would consider underrated but the problem is they are all japanese only releases so I have no idea how "well rated" they actually are. Nor do I know how people generally rate current imports.
But I would say some like Spriggan, The Twelve Kingdoms, SunaBouzu, Spring and Chaos, Madlax, Midori no Hibi and Hajime no Ippo are under rated for being really cool in there own way and not to talked about to my knowledge.

I didn't recognize the other titles you listed, but Spriggan is pretty well known. I've never seen it but I have been aware of it for years.
