Chapter 1: phone call

It was about 6:00 am when Yuuske woke up at the sound of Kuramas’ voice. “Yuuske wake up, breakfast is almost ready” said the fox. “alright, jeez can’t a guy get some sleep”. He gets out of bed and dresses himself. “hmm… maybe I should wait to brush my teeth till after I eat.”

Yuuske then goes down to the bottom of the stairs when the phone rings, Kurama, of course answers the phone, Yuuske can hear Kurama say repeatedly “ yes, mother, yes, mother” Yuuske couldn’t help himself so when he heard Kurama hang up the phone he said in his usual tone, “ what did she say?” and Kurama replies “ well, you know, how am I and what I was doing.” Yuuske looks at him glaringly and asks “are you hiding something?” he asked.

“no” the fox answered “don’t be silly I would never hide anything from you” finished the fox, as he went back to serving breakfast. “well…I think you are Kurama.” Kurama looked at Yuuske again with a scared sort of look and said “well my mom got some vacation time and she’s going to be gone for weeks.” Looking at Kurama Yuuske tried to calm him down by saying “hey, we can handle ourselves and so can she.” Kurama suddenly said “she’s going mountain climbing and the worst thing is it’s her first time.”

“Kurama don’t worry she’ll be fine, don’t worry.”
“yes…your right she will be.” Said the fox trying to believe his own words.

Well Yuuske had made his point or so he thought when Kurama had revealed something horrible to him. “it’s just that there are demons on that mountain.” After that announcement from Kurama Yuuske had to ask because he was curious at that point and time. “what level demons?” he asked and Kurama replied “D-class demons, not much for us but my mother.” Yuuske was just pissed about it so he said “we’ll…god dammit I hate those level of demon, Damn! They’re such ####in’ pests.”

“that’s true” replied Kurama worryingly

“is there anything we can ####in’ do about it?” asked Yuuske

“no” Kurama replied “there is nothing we can do cause she’ll find out about what we can do, but you can stay here until she comes back if you want Yuuske.”

“sure” replied Yuuske “I’ll stay here with ya, but first I have to…EAT!” Kurama sweatdrops and says “ what about your clothes?” and Yuuske simply replies “I’ll get those tonight at 7:00pm.”

“ok,” Kurama replied “what will we do till then, huh?”
“well we can go train with Genkai.” Answered Yuuske.

“as much as that sounds appealing I dreadfully must decline your offer cause I must go to school, and you should too.” When Yuuske heard this he reluctantly but fast punched Kurama and Kurama asked “why did you do that?” and Yuuske replied “ to knock you back to your damn senses.” Kurama was pretty shocked by this and was speechless, until he said “this is a very awkward moment and I don’t want to train at this time…I’ll come at 4:00pm, ok.” Yuuske is thunderstruck almost speechless because of what he had heard from Kurama, but he agreed and left the house after he had eaten. But, after he’d left the house he thought about what Kurama had said at his(Kurama’s) house

It did not take long for Yuuske to get to the dojo, but he was still in deep thought about what Kurama had said “he doesn’t want to train-“ but at that time he was interrupted by an old voice “hey, Yuuske! Yuuske! Snap out of it dumbass.” Just then he snaps out of it and realizes who had just spoke to him. So he replied in his usual way with her “hi, grandma,” she hits him in the head. He rubs his head while saying “ouch, you old hag what did you do that for?”

“because nitwit you called me grandma.” She replied coolly

“ that’s your name translated from Japanese to English, grandma.”

“damn you nitwit.” She said in an angry tone “now spar with Hiei, oh and where’s Kurama?”

At the mention of Kurama, Yuuske thought about Kuramas’ mom and those demons. Yuuske thought about it and as he did he was again interrupted by a familiar voice “ok, Yuuske lets fight,
Hello! Yuuske!” then Yuuske came back to his senses and said “yea, lets do it.” Hiei looked at him and said “what are you hiding?” after that Yuuske went to punch Hiei but Hiei dodged it “I’m not hiding anything Hiei I’m not!” Hiei was shocked by the way Yuuske answered this question and he replied with a swipe of his sword but Yuuske dodged it.

“Hiei your much slower than I had expected, have you been training?” Hiei was again shocked by this remark coming from the spirit detective all he could say was “hn,” he said very bluntly “ I know your hiding something.” Yuuske had suddenly got a surprised look on his face and said in a hiding-something-type voice “no…I wouldn’t hide anything from you guys promise.” Hiei snaps and yells “YOU ARE HIDING SOMETHING, TELL ME WHAT IT IS, NOW!!!” Yuuske isn’t surprised about this because it’s the normal Hiei, but he tries to change the subject.

“well…” Yuuske tries to think of something to say and he did “I’m not hiding anything.”

“YES, YOU ARE!!” Hiei slams Yuuske into the wall and tries to persuade him in his usual way. “hey, you stupid human if you don’t tell me I’ll kill you!” Yuuske frowns and he just can’t keep it in any longer, so he tells them and it takes about five minutes “…well, he knew there were demons so he must’ve heard the name of the mountain from his mom but, he didn’t tell me the name.”

“maybe he didn’t want us to know so he could take care of it.” Said Genkai

“yea, so let’s train ‘cause I’m bored.” Said a carrot-colored hair boy. They all agreed and then trained for hours and stopped to eat lunch at 12:00pm.
There was silence while they ate until they were interrupted by Shizuru, who want to talk to Kuwabara.

“Hey! Kazuma I want to talk to you Kazuma!” she said in an angry voice. Kuwabara got a surprised look on his face and in a innocent tone said “what do you mean?” and Shizuru replied “you left me to do your chores you ####in’ little ass, on and that’s what I’ll kick.” Everyone except Kuwabara laughed, Kuwabara just sweat dropped and said “come on sis I’m sorry,” Kuwabara lowers his voice down to a whisper “I’m trying to train so please, just this once.” Shizuru thought about for a few minutes then says “alright, but next time no exceptions you will do your chores.” Kuwabara quickly said “yes, yes I promise I’ll do my chores.”

Shizuru leaves and they start they’re training and a few hours later at 3:59pm Kurama appears and is speechless when he sees the looks on their faces. He breaks the silence by saying “why are you looking at me that way?” the old woman named Genkai answers him “Yuuske told us about your mom,” Kurama glares at Yuuske and Yuuske sweat drops and says “sorry, Hiei got it out of me an-“ “HEY, NITWIT DON’T INTERRUPT!!!”
Yuuske gets a scared look on his face and says “sorry, grandma.” Genkai at that time lights a cigarette.

“yes, he told us everything but don’t worry just like Yuuske said.” Finished Genkai.

“yes, I believe your right Genkai,” Kurama got a frightened look on his face. “well I don’t want to talk about it alright.”

Everyone replies “yes” Kurama is relieved that everyone understands and then he says “so shall we get back to training?”

“yes” Yuuske replies

“but, one thing bugs me,” said Genkai “how did you know about the demons?”
Kurama just said bluntly “that’s where I trained before here and I used them to do it.”

“why?” asked Kuwabara

“because they were the only thing there to train with.” He finishes. There is silence for awhile until it is broken by Genkai “ well, let’s get back to training.” Everyone agrees and they start training again. By the time it was 6:30 Kurama and Yuuske decided it was time to go home. “bye, everyone” said Kurama hurriedly “yea, bye guys see you tomorrow.” Genkai then says wittingly “hey, nitwit!” Yuuske stops in his tracks “what?” he said angrily “don’t get killed” replied Genkai “whatever.” Yuuske said dismissingly.

After walking for minutes they finally reached Kuramas’ house and went in Yuuske read the clock as it had just turned to 6:40pm there was a brief moment of silence till Kurama said “hey, Yuuske go and get your clothes.” But Yuuske said “no, I’ll get them tomorrow.” Just then the phone rings and Kurama asks “Yuuske could you get it?” and he replied “yea”.

Yuuske answers the phone and says “hello, minamono residence may I ask who’s calling?” then a voice the sounded like a toddler came on but Yuuske knew who it was; but the voice spoke and said “it’s me Yuuske, Koenma and there’s big trouble.” Yuuske heard a little whimper from Koenma “(whimpers) Yuuske you must know that the kakai barrier has been breeched by A-class demons.” Yuuske got a surprised look on his face and said “what! A-class demons.” Koenma just replied “yes, and S-class demons won’t be far behind.” Just then he asked “so is this my new case to try and stop them.” Koenma replied in an angry voice “of course you dolt but get Kurama and the other ok, bye” Koenma hung up and so did Yuuske.

Kurama was serving dinner when Yuuske came into the kitchen, there was a brief silence until Kurama asked “what did Koenma want?” then Yuuske replied “two words KAKAI BREACH.” Then a surprised look hit Kuramas face “what! That’s bad.” They end it there with Yuuske saying “we’ll tell the guys tomorrow.” Kurama replied “yea, ok”. Kurama and Yuuske finish eating and go to bed.
