Title: Anime Essay Vol 1: "Anime in Mythology"
Lion - November 25, 2003 11:55 PM (GMT)
I decided to do a couple of anime essays, each refering to a subject. My first subject would be Animes with Mythology. Roman-Greek, Egyptian, Chinese, etc.
Ok I'll start By Sailor Moon.
Number of eps: 200
Seasons: Sailor Moon, Sailor Moon R, Sailor Moon S, Sailor Moon SuperS and Sailor Moon stars.
Specials/Movies: Sailor Moon R(Promise of the rose.) Sailor Moon S(Hearts on ice.) Sailor Moon Super S(Black dream hole.)
and Ami's First love.
Mythologys involved: Roman-Greek(So far is the strongest one.)
Dubbed by: DIC(Only the first two seasons.) Cloverway(The rest of the english dub.) Pionner(Only the specials/movies. they also released a subbed and dubbed version of each one.)
Explanation:
Venus- Is the roman Goddess of love and beauty. She is Known as Aphrod in Mythology.
Sailor venus attacks: Love me chain! Love and beauty, shock!
Mars: The god of war. In greek Mythology is known as Ares. The planet got his name due to his Red color.
Sailor Mars sailor suit is red and her attacks are of fire.
Jupiter: The Lord and master of Rain and Thunder. To the Ancient Greek he was zeus, Ruler of the gods and Mount Olympus.
Sailor Jupiter was very strong and all of her attacks are thunder. Sparkling wide pressure, Thunderclaps and Thunder.
Saturn: ???(I will need to look for me info.)
Uranus: Is the ancient god of the heavens. The earliest supreme god. Father of Cronus. he was the first ruler of the universe.
Sailor Uranus name is Tenoh Haruka can be translated as "Distant Heaven King" and Since Uranus married Goddes Gaia that would explain why Her attacks are earth related.
Neptune- The god of the seas. Sailors used to pray Neptune for safe Voyages. sea travels were dangerous on ancient times.
Sailor neptune has water attacks, and her name can be translated as "Complete Ocean King" and one more hint that sailor neptune was named after the roman god of the sea.
Pluto: Is the god of underworld, A nickname for the God of hell "Hades" the planet received his name for being far away from the sun and in Perpuetal darkness.
This would explain why her sailor suit is Black and her attack is called dead scream.
Artemis: the greek goddess of the moon and of the hunt.
I guess this would explain why Artemis is one of the cat guardians and why he's white.
Diana- he was related to ARTEMIS. By some reason. I yet can't understand it.
This would explain as well why Artemis daughter had the name.
Pegasus- Was a supernatural animal: a shining white horse with wings. this good-natured, Loyal, and obedient creature would follow orders whether they were for good or for evil.
-Follow orders, and shining. I guess this is why he follows ChibiUSA orders.
Helios- The greek sun god, who rode to his palace in colchis every night in a golden boat furnished with wings. this god gives light both to gods and men.
-The golden boat would explain his golden crystal and the light would explain when he gives his powers in his pegasus form.
In conclusion:
Naoko Takeuchi may have based sailor moon in her school girl years, but I think she loved the Roman Greek mythology becuase almost all chracthers are based on it
YUGIOH coming soon

YUGIOH
Number of eps: umm.. this is hard. lets say over 120
Seasons: Yugioh Season 1,2,3,4
Special movies: Yugioh the movie(If anyone knows of more, let me know.)
Mythologys involved: Egytian(Mostly) altough some monsters don't mix with the egyptian mythology.
Dubbed: 4kids(just writing that name gives me nausea) Funimation takes care of the VHS and DVD's and Upperdeck translates the cards names.
Yami Yugi/King Yami/Pharoah- Well as u know, the Pharohs were kings and might rulers. so there were always many preists trying to kill them.
Black Magician- Magicians are more english than egyptian. but maybe they placed him as the bodyguard of the Pharoh.
-To be continued
