It is a science of racing, Rain. The basic concept is the combination of Man and Machine... The perfection of the Human Form and the Aerodynamics of the Bike and the gear worn by the rider affects the overall speed and performance of the outcome... The Terrain is enormously challenging and it has been inconceivable to imagine a single person to come in First Place, "Seven" years in a row... :D :silly: :silly: :silly: YeeeeeHawwwwwww!!!!!! Go Lance!!!! :silly: :silly: :silly:

i just dont get it. they have all these stages, and no one wins them all. why dont they just start the race and the first to the finish line wins?
it makes no sense at all to me.

Ok, Rain... Here's the poop.. The Race is so long, that the contestants would not be able to start and finish in one day..

A stage, represents each leg of the race, and if they did conduct the race as a start and finish, the winner would be determined by the quickest time it took to complete the race from start to finish,,, and Guess what,,, that is what they do in a cumulative time of all the legs of the race.... It just takes about 10 days to complete...

If a rider finishes each leg in 2nd or 3rd place,, but just seconds or minutes behind the winner of that leg,, their overall time is constant.. Not every rider wins every leg and few win more than one.. The terrain varies and many riders have their strengths in different zones, so someone who may fly on a flatland, and win that stage, may fall way behind in the mountains, thus loosing huge amounts of time.

The difference that a winner of a Tour de France makes is being consistantly in the top 5 at the conclusion of each leg.. The minutes are calculated throughout the race and though the winner may not be the first one across the Finish line. He is the one with the fastest cumulative time...

Lance has proven over and over again that he is the overall Champion of all obstacles that are presented in each type of Terrain as the racers cross the Country of France..

I hope this helps to explain what it is that this race is about... Simply, a Bicycle, and the stamina of the Human Form, on a Grand Scale.... :silly: :silly: :silly:
