i saw this network cable at a mall one day and my friend said not to get it until i get the router and i don't know where to buy that please help.

you need to get the router first, so you make sure you get the correct ethernet cable, there are both crossover, and straight through cables, most likely you will need a straight through. Also when you connect the ps2 to the router, it's best to assign an IP address, and put the ps2 in the DMZ, so you don't hae to bother forwarding ports. Also, I was at some crappy computer shop, and they have some "game" kit, which consisted of a hub, and 4 12 foot straight through cables, for just over $30. Which is way cheaper than buying the cables without the hub.
