Title: troll vomit!

Sajon - July 16, 2009 07:32 PM (GMT)
i hope that this question has been up before, but as usuall i could not find it.

can a troll that are not in btb contact with any enemy model, still use the troll vomit rule instead of attack as normal?!

cos how i read that rule is that. IF one model in my unit of trolls are in combat, i can still vomit with all the trolls.

it was changed first in newer books, but the ruling in the book beast of chaos i take it that it is this way.

im i right?

Short answer:
RAW -> Probably
RAI -> Not a chance

Long answer:
7 pages of light reading right here.

Its funny. Even though I still believe the RAW interpretation is wrong, I no longer have any problem with it. Not with all the crazy stuff flying around these days.

Think of it as the BoC Engine of the Gods. :ph43r:

engine of the gors.

Edit: wow, my first post was in that thread!

Take a giant unit to a high comp event and show how BoC cheese can slip under the radar.

"Oh look...a unit of 20 chaos trolls...this army gets the highest comp."

Interestingly I know a guy Kevin Coleman (the author of the gnoblar list, ecology of the goblins and othe WD articles, and the author of the current unnoficial chaos dwarf GT list) who has been running massive units of trolls for ages - in his orcs and goblisn (won the Colonial GT in 07 with them) and now in warriors of chaos with and without Throgg.

Played him at the 09 Colonial GT and was across the hall from him at the Big Show GT last weekend. Deployed his models in something like two units of 12 six wide

It's completely wacky and probably shouldn't work - but it does. I struggled to figure out how to deal with it. . . and for WoC it does rack up some serious EoTG rolls.

In the new(ish) Warriors of Chaos book, it is very clear that only Chaos Troll models in base contact get the S5 hits for puking. Mind you, the whole unit hurls, but those not in base to base contact with enemy models apparently barf on their own feet, or on the backs and shoulders of their fellows, which seems about right.

Surely this will be the case with the new Beasts book. Until then, it's probably good form to talk with your opponent before the battle about how you think your trolls spew chunks. If you decide to play the whole unit as getting the hits, at least your opponent can adjust his tactics accordingly.

Cheers

I don't want the WoC trolls in our new book; mutant regen is their special rule, I like ours having +1A.

As decker says you can argue the whole unit will be able to vomit on the enemy fairly easily, but thats probably not the way it was meant to be played.

Mutant regen?

Mutant regen?

Trolls in the WoC book have only 3 attacks, but get to roll on the eye of the gods table when they make 2 or more regenerate rolls. So the more you shoot at them, the more powerful they get.

So long as you had a good magic defence, I could certainly see how this would work well with a big unit of trolls.

well as usuall people here tend to say different things, but i will push for that all my trolls can vomit, even those that are not in btb with an enemy model

Alkibiades - July 18, 2009 02:33 AM (GMT)
I don't think you'd be out of line to push for the mass-barfing of Beasts Chaos Trolls; it would take a real fool to accuse a BoC player of power gaming. I'm a WoC player, and I'd let any BoC player puke with the whole unit as the rule is currently written.

Cheers

Maybe it is time to re-open this thread? :D

I'm pretty sure GW faqed this a while ago.

Checked and; Apparently not.

I still maintain my opinion that it is perfectly legal as it states; The whole unit (trolls) vomits on the enemy.
